Star Citizen Can't disappoint you if it never comes out.

X4 will disappoint you if it does.

The ship wave is certainly going to be a concern. However, SC is likely going to have a lot more PVE content than EVE, so its hopefully not going to be as bad.

And that said, the game is also going to bring a solo campaign with it, which should be worth it on its own. Tbh, that's the part I'll care most about. Gonna take a look at the MMO, but that might end up being too much MMO and space trucking simulator.

The concern i have about the single player campaign is its not the full game (a bit like if you ONLY had the main story in TC/AP and couldnt do free roam stuff). As in, you can do a bunch of stuff but you won't be able to use all the features of the full game as they're online only.

For the full game, $$$ balance issues aside its going to be amazing. They've taken a lot of the new concepts from NMS and polished them, and most of the standard space game fare like mining and combat which all looks decent.

Of course, a large problem is they want it to be "bigger and better than everything else". Which means beating newly released games. Starfield is likely to be released before squadron 42, which is then going to push back SQ42 as they need to redesign to compete. X:5 will quite possibly be released before SC as well.

SQ42 and SC should really be independant games.

As a long time SC backer you should buy X4. SC is nowhere near complete.

The reason people have such negative opinion of SC is because CIG has been announcing release dates every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ year for SQ42. First 2014, then answer the call 2015, 2016, 2017 and now they've nutted up on it and the game is nowhere to be seen.

The fact that people bash SC is completely valid because CIG did that to themselves when they chose to market the game that way only to never deliver. If you think about it, they had to have blatantly lied when they said the first episode would be out 2016/2017. There was no chance it'd be ready by then but they still marketed it that way(to get money).

This is all you need to know about SQ42: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33ue0lzVnys

And since people keep saying that SQ42 and SC are tightly coupled because they share tech, don't expect anything anytime soon.
i hope you get your game, or at least your monies worth on this long journey. those financials should have been shown. it would have put fears to rest. but they didnt.........not good.

I want to check out the other M class ships, they look awsome to.

Those huge doors are actually the M-class landing pads. The S-class ones are the 20 or so up along the sides.

And funny how this thread evolves. Am I the only one that thinks the really rabid SC fans exhibit an awful lot of the same symptoms an abuse victim shows? "I'll just buy one more ship, because this time it'll be different and I won't get punched in the face!"

Glad I bought into the Kickstarter for 60 bucks, and decided long ago it was going to be a bottomless pit.
yeah but my views have evolved. there are plenty of backers saying they are talking about are getting muffled by CIG and the rabid fanboys. so i see some people in there that we should all have empathy for, and maybe try and multiply their voice - although since i have no skin in the game maybe i have no right to say anything. but then again, you want to make ppl PAY for bad biz practice. its not a small issue. its a 200 M dollar issue. case law about to be made in a few years.

I saw an article (read or youtube, not sure) that argued that what CIG really needs is one of those hardnosed EA executives who basically tell them: "No. FK U. No more new features. Fix what's broken, finish what's planned, release this next year. NO. NO MORE FEATURES. If you can't finish this, you're fired."

It really feels like that's what's needed if it's ever going to come out in any way, shape or form.

Which brings us back to X4. Egosoft releases it, so people can hammer it and break it, and they can fix their bugs quickly, instead of keeping it back until they have all features perfectly working. Which of course will never happen, so the game never releases..

They do :) They have quite a bit of experience with that from the X3 days, so I think they're right about it. The thing is, at one point you need to make a decision: What's the core pack that needs to work, and when can we release it. Because with games of the scope of X4 and SC, you can't ever release if you want everything to be in the game. So release it, see how the response is, what people want, then focus on that.

It's kind of the Agile of gaming :D

If you wanna play now go for X4, SC is by no means a finished product. It is awesome, and looks wonderful, and when you step out to zero G or land on a planet the first time it's awesome and unparalleled.
But it's an alpha it's buggy, and they just started to fill it with content, so at the moment there's not much to do apart from trading, few misdions and having fun with friends.

Problem is many ppl bashing SC or saying it will never release have no idea what they are talking about.

It is by no means a finished game, but considering the scope, that they are making two games - one of which is a huge MMO, and they started from zero shows they are not late compared to any other game development. They just shouldn't have state unrealistic release dates.
Heck it's in development for 6 years (which is a fact because they only licensed Cryengine end of 2012 after tge kickstarter, so silly statements like 7-8-9-10 years are just that, silly) the same time as Cyberpunk 2077, and CDPR is an established studio and CP2077 is just a single player game. While CIG had to build up all the company on the fly , and they are making a technically next gen MMO+ a single player.

So yeah it takes a long time, and it's not ready to play if you can't put up with a buggy alpha, but it is awesome already.

That said if anyone interested in SC try it out on one of the free fly weekends, and judge if it's worth any money. If you feel it you can support them, if you don't then don't. If you feel it has promise but not there yet, try it later on the next free fly.
Grownups can decide when they feel like something is for them, but making statements about how other ppl spend their money is useless.
