Although, since Avorion technically came after the X series, I guess it is more accurate to say that Avorion has some of the same feel as the X series.

No Man's Sky is similar, but with a heavier focus on planetary exploration.
Elite Dangerous is focused more on sim-flight and combat.. there is trading though.
Stellaris is a Grand-strategy game, with expanding your faction across the galaxy, being trading, fighting, social or whatever.
StarPoint Gemini is pretty close, no station walking or such though.
Freelancer is prettyyyy old, but still enjoyable.
Evochron Mercenary (if it's still called that) is a more hardcore version, with platenary landings.
Also. I disagree with stations being dead. some are less populated and bugs happen. lol Depending on the streamer, A lot of people will lose patience with EuroJank games.

The latest one us called Evochron Legacy. It is a space sim that is similar but also very different. It has an active cockpit where all information is displayed in real time, something X4 sorely lacks. Its cargo carrying system is crude, X4 outshines it there. The graphics are dated often using old DOS looking data screens. The space stations are identical, small and nondescript. Being able to land on and build structures is a plus (looking at you Egosoft).
All in all it is a decent space sim seeing as it is the labor of love of one person.
That being said, I still prefer the X series, especially X4 even with all its quirks. As a long time X owner I know Egosoft will make X4 as great as we all expect it to be. I just wish they would start incorporating things other sims include as standard features.
I believe it is, yes. If that isn't correct feel free to post otherwise.
