Expanding sector maps... WORST IDEA EVER
I'm sorry, but this is just the most ridiculous thing. I get a sector mapped out all nice and neat so I can see which stations are there in a glimpse... Then one of my autotraders spacks out and goes for a million mile journey into the Great Beyond, which massively increases the size of the sector map - meaning all the station icons get shrunk into a tiny little blue ball. I've developed arthritis in my middle finger from all the scrolling in and out I have to do now!

What's worse, is that there is no way of setting the zoom level on a sector, they're permanently stuck in this position now. A map is supposed to show you where important locations are, not squish them into tiny, blue, indistinguishable blurs...

Agreed.

Oh, IMO empty space really does not make the maps bigger, even if we can fly to it.
I even flew two sectors away from a sector, its just turns into an endless trail for miners fighting bad guys every N or so kilometers. Like a pearl string into infinity.

At one point I was thinking, hell, so here are all the NPC we can shoot...off the map!

Agreed, I much prefer keeping the sectors non zoomed out, empty space is boring, even IF there MIGHT be some random wreck or a abandoned station/ship, flying for hours into infinity with no way of locating these suprises,its just not worth the snooze fest....ive tried multiple times to fly out and ''explore'' the nothingness, havent found anything worthwhile. If we had SOME way of making finding these things easier,not like handed to you but maybe a NPC could drop a hint of a direction he/she saw something ''strange'' or out of the ordinary that we could investigate I think it would be much funner and immersive.

My thoughts exactly! It's all well and good saying that each sector is 10,000 trillion cubic miles or whatever, but if the actual area of importance (where all the stations are) is only 2% of that area and the rest is just empty besides the odd pair of spawned-in Xenon ships, what's the point? It wouldn't be so much hassle if we could lock the zoom level on a per-sector basis, but in the current state, well, the pictures speak for themselves!

Heh, for me it was more like "Why the hell have I stopped making money? Where are my traders at? .... Ahh, they've all decided to GTFO, stage left!!" xD

Keep the expanding sectors just dont show it on the map. Assuming it's faked anyways. If you want to explore off the map and fight wave after wave of enemies that is cool too! Just don't muck up the map scale

The UI on the expanding sector borders works only so far it seems, although exploring into the ether is something people do enjoy. For that i reference Elite Dangerous. It should be kept as a choice to whether one explores that far or not. But, if we can explore that far, the Map system will need an overhaul, surely?

I would like to be able to shrink some of my sectors that got screwed up by auto explore. It is pretty annoying !

Id also like such a feature.

Auto-Shrink-Move towards and including all stations and objects plus 100km around them.

That's why it's called the middle mouse button. One finger fits on each button nicely. Just how I do it though.

This bothers me so much more than it should.. I tried all 3 fingers and I'll never ever do that again! I feel all dirty

Lol yeah, having the same problem. I have one scout per sector, once they scouted the entire sector they wander off and increase the sector size. I have to play "catch the scouts" every now and then when they even wander off of those then huge sector borders and fly around in dead space.

the worst idea ever was actually a chocolate fireguard. this one, though not well thought out, doesnt hold a candle to that. The only thing I can think of is they decided on it so later they could add stuff in an...... expansion.
