Buying a ship without hiring a captain?

I mean...it's easy enough to just fire them, but I feel kinda guilty about it afterwards.

Also it is a completely unecessary expense.

But I can't seem to buy a new ship without hiring a captain for it as it's a "mandatory" thing. Any way around this?

Be careful maybe? I bought a cool paranid carrier because i love their bridge, went to fill it up with teladi, but when i fired the ugly captain and replaced him with one of said teladi, half its weapons and shields were instantly destroyed. I have no idea why, but i suspect it's not a bug?

I don`t know why you can`t buy a ship without a captain. You should be able to. Hopefuly they`ll fix that.

its useful to have a back up pilot for your ship tho so you can claim another if you find an unclaimed one in space.. and you can always move him/her/it elsewhere if you need personel... like manager for a station

Ugly Captain? how did you manage to buy a Paranid Carrier with a Human Captain?
