I think it should eventually have its own Quest line or something instead.
I don't mind having to do stuff to get it so a quest is a good idea, but like Mish said grinding is not fun, and RNG based grinding is really not fun.

SETA was a basic tool in X3 and installed in every ship and im missing it in X4. Usually i find 2 parts really fast, but its hard to find this "damaged singularity". killed hundreds of drones and xenos with my 1.50 savegame and haven´t found it.
I was very happy when ive found it in a random box in space.
You are right, it shouldn´t be that way to get this SETA thing.
It's a Singleplayer game, no one is forcing you to use it or read this thread. However not everyone has the same amount of time for gaming as you and may want things faster.
That's where I am. I have 4 damaged singularities and 3 flux capacitors. I just need the third item and have been at it for hours.
Not to mention it's been a staple of X games for a while, and while you may not particularly like it, if they were to remove it, there'd be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ over it.
Shot down Khaak they drop the pieces also and for me have a rather high chance for the singularity.
And the upside Khaak do not have any additional crap dropes in the loot table everything they drop is useful.
Yeah, it is.
Even X³ had no must have use case for SETA imho.
It even did more harm in the long run then it did good unless you wanted the drawbacks to happen.
Like degrading ranks and increased Pirate and Khaak presence because of inaction.
X4 compensates the need for SETA in the early game thanks to the travel drive in the midgame through all the extras you can do like exploration and i don't mean unlocking all sectors but actual exploration and missions.
And for the mid to lategame station building.
So yes having SETA can be nice but i rather have the PHQ with research and teleportation unlocked as i do use that all the time well everyone has a personal bar with wich to meassure the value of a mechanic i guess.
PS : the only usefull thing i see for SETA is when they will add a new Patch that will require you to restart a new game , or to do crashtest with how galaxy evolve during time depending on your actions , that's the only "good" thing and legit i found for SETA
Find an isolated Xenon station, fly close, let the station spawn their drones and destroy them. You will get all the required parts in minutes.
