"Newton's first law states that every object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change its state by the action of an external force"
....which takes hell of a lot of getting used to since we are used to things slowing down and coming to rest by themselves due to air resistance, ground friction and gravity pressure in the absence of contunuous thrust.
My initial attemps were as laughable as they were frustrating. The good news it that once you figure out the priciple you do get the hang of it. My tips are:
1. Don't tilt yourself from "upright" relative to your ship unless you absolutely have to, as therein lies the path to madness.
2. Never, ever, start yanking your controller around desperately trying to correct a mistake. You won't succeed. Ever.
3. If spinning off uncontrollably unto certain doom, think x,y and z axis separatey and issue carefully condidered thuster or throttle commands carefully to counter each in turn. Throttle deals with x axis, W and S deal with y, A and D deal with z.
4. For each thruster or throttle or throttle action you make, make an exactly equal and opposite action to it before you take any other action, thus bringing you to blissfull rest. A novice will almost certainly have to issue a series of very small "back and forth" corrections to actually get the damn thing to stop still though.
5. When applying thruster or throttle thrust, make a small "puff" and then shut it off and coast. This is hardest to do with the throttle 'cos it's unintuitive. Then do the same with the opposite reaction "puff".
6. Resist the temptation to use more than one of the two thrusters and the throttle at the same time at all costs as therein lies the path to certain death and everlasting damnation. I'm sure if you spend half you life in these space suits it might evetually become intuitive and as easy and one, two, three but whilst in training stick to go right - stop - gp up - stop - go forward - stop, I say.
if you go into the spacesuite the only start-movement is down. backspace should stop all movement in your spacesuit, if you still move then there is an additional input (controller/joystick?)
In my issue the problem is between kayboard and chair, or layer 8 :D ... I forgot to set the joystick to zero trust.
And well, anytime I go out of my ship, I use first the delete button until I stop.
Nice explanation Gregorovitch :) , you are complete right. After playing all X parts, the space suit functionality is the most stable part of the game behavior.I is fun with that physic model.
I think you simply don`t understand the suit- or how being in space is like in one. The sluggish controls are exactly how the suit is meant to be. The WASD keys just direct you, not move you much. Use boost to move properly.
My advice, press STOP (Space button or whatever button you choose for stopping) as soon as you exit into space. You`ll stop. Then carefully and slowly, use your thrusters (which are very slow) and suit BOOST (it isn`t much of a boost but you`ll build speed). Then you`ll find you are moving.
You will find you have to think a tiny bit ahead to where you want to go and compensate for that, just like astronauts have to do in space today!
The suit is not the spaceship. You`re SUPPOSED to feel awkward and vulnerable in it.
Seem to always be moving slightly forward when first entering space.......
Boost with tab is awesome for getting somewhere fast but member to use backspace or BOOM!
Once you have done it a bit, least for me it gets somewhat doable without issue. It is however very sensitive.
try to come to a full stop by holding down the backspace key.
(holding down backspace is the ultimate breake into EVERY direction)
if you immediately start to accelerate once you let go of that key something that acts as a throttle is giving this input.
check any other connected devices if they are capable to send such an input and set them to a neutral position.
rinse and repeat until you've found out wich device is responsile.
consider removing this device for the time being.
check if your controll scheme deviates from the default and try to reset it to default if you are in doubt.
if you recently rolled back from the beta, it is even highly recommendet to reset to default.
