Transfer Cargo between Ships
As I understand it, currently there is no means to transfer cargo between ships unless BOTH ships are actively piloted by NPC's (meaning you can't be in one of them).

Does anyone know if there are any other solutions?

I was able to transfer cargo between 2 ships docked at the same station, with a npc pilot in one of them and myself in the other. So I don't know where the 2 npc thing comes from but it's not accurate.

In map view; property owned. Select the target ship with a left click, then right click your own ship, select "transfer wares with"

Yes, done that and all it does is Queue up an order for the pilot. If you then look at your ship pilot, it shows 1 Queued Ware Transfer Order. At this point, it does nothing and I've yet found a way to get it to process that queue. You must have something different going on with your ships.

I transferred 3 antimatter from my ship to another for part of the plot, worked fine, said processing, took about 10 seconds. Are the ware sizes suitable for the ships you have? I haven't got much further than that but in previous games the ware sizes mattered, S/M/L/XL ect, can't fit an XL ware in a tiny little fighter?

I believe the antimatter units are small, and I'm trying to put them into a small scout ship. It just stays in the Queued state. I've resorted to sending that scout ship over to the antimatter factory to have it buy 3 antimatter units since I can't seem to move any between ships.. It's good to hear you got it to work, so maybe there's a way.

You an eject it from one and pick it up with the other.

Far from fancy, but that's how I moved my antimatter cells to my other ship.

Are you absolutely positive about this?
I tried to do this, but it didn't work for me either. It was just a queued order that wasn't executed.
When I let my own ship be piloted by a NPC, he instantly dropped the cargo into space and the other ship picked it up, so it appears there really is no other way to me.

Perhaps you have to have a Backup Captain on your own ship to get this to work? I have not yet hired a captain for my own ship. Any other advice very welcome.. Thanks.

and yet it is absolutely no problem to transfer thyself to the other end of the galaxy..... Where's the logic in that hey?

When you tell the other ship to trade, your own ship is also given a trade order. The other ships says "Executing" while your own ship's say "Ready". I don't know how to get your own ship to execute the order though. I found it easier to simply drop the items into space and then instruct the other ship to pick up the dropped items.

Automated cargo transfer between ships is something only NPCs can do, I never managed to get it to work in any ship I was piloting without getting off the pilot seal and letting the relief pilot handle it.

You can eject the cargo from the ships menus and tell the other ship to pick up the boxes, if its an L or XL it will need cargo drones for this (Make a save before trying :D ).

Or you can go pilot the other ship, then run over the containers or use the tractor beam. Cargo drones are atrocious to use.

I know this an old post, but hopefully someone will find this solution in future.

To transfer cargo between two ships at the same dock, whilst piloting one of them:

In the Map, click on your ship to select it, and THEN shift-click on your other ship to select both of them. Then, right click either ship and select Transfer Wares from the menu.

I've tried this. I've also taken both ships out, dumped inventory, then picked it up with the other ship, my original ship still shows Full containers (150). Still haven't figured out how to access the ship cargo to see what I have, or is that the personal inventory? What a convoluted system... another classic example of re-inventing the wheel! There are SO many games in many genres that have workable, user-friendly inventory systems, what's the deal with this one? :steamsad:
