Still Noob, How do you Crystal Mine?
Hi guys, just wondering how do you go about Mining crystals from Asteroids?

I want to buy a Miner eventually and let a NPC captain pilot it, how do I go about it and automate the process?

Still noob, need help thanks.

crystals are for the player to mine by hand... mining is mining the rock/ice or gases. buy a miner. the sentinel version of argon or teladi are both great for this. then go to behaviors and set them to auto mine in the behavior. u add the THING u want that ship to mine and gate distance they are allowed to jump. they will mine and sell on their own.

Ok, some things I not clear about:

1. Crystals, where do I find which asteroid contains what I want? How many types of Crystals are there? Do I need to buy the Hand Laser for my Space Suit?

2. Mining for Ore, Silicon, etc..., how do I do it in a ship? Must it always be a Miner L or XL? How do I know which Asteroids contain what I want?

Thanks for the reply, I will experiment on it but need some clarification still.

You can just shoot crystals with normal weapons. You can see them sitting on the roids and there are multiple types.

They also sparkle ( blink ) so watch out for them.

Probably any astroid field, but I know I've seen them in argon prime. Just fly through the field slowly, looking for "sparkly" effects from a medium distance. Please note they are pretty rare. Not every astroid will have them.

If you don't want to rely on the sparkly effect, just slowly fly past astroids, visually looking at them with your eyes at a very close distance. The crystals are small, but vibrant in color and you can see them.

Then, just shoot them off with your ships weapons. Then, push and hold "O" key (default) to vacuum them up into your ship.
The crystals actaully end up in your player inventory, not your ship's cargo.
You have to sell them at the "shopping cart" traders when you're docked in a station.

I will post screenshots when I am able.

Another tip is, when you're at the trader selling your crystals, make sure to also buy up any needles/bandages/sedatives you have. Then, you can craft these into First Aid kits at the crafting station, and turn around and sell them right back to the same trader for a huge profit.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

Just wondering, how do you check from your ship which Trader has the best price for the crystals you want to sell? I know you can set filter settings but how exactly do you do it? I do not quite understand yet how to maximise the map screen?

I'm not sure, since the crystals are a player inventory item and not a "cargo" item. (ie an item a ship must transport)

I just watched a vid on this. First it's better if you hit shift 2 for your short range scanner, easier to spot crystals on asteroids. To sell you have to go to a trader station and find a trader, buddy did it in vid no problem.
