Difference between satelite and advance satelite?
Could someone please share with me what the scan range differences between the two are?

Encyclopaedia mentions it?

Satellite: 30km scanner, 100 Mj hull
Advanced Satellite: 75km scanner , 150 Mj hull

I had looked before but didnt find it. Im now at a shipyard buying my first ship and when I right click the advanced satelte there, it leads me to the encyclopedia, showing it's indeed 75km. Thanks.

Considering a satelite costs 5k and the advanced 105k, isnt the best option to drop a small one at stations you want to use for trading, the financially most viable option or am I missing something?

you are correct. advanced sats are more specialised./ maybe you can get 4 or 5 stations in one satellite for a greater cost, but i think they are more useful as actual surveylance devices. drop them in hostile area, or areas where you want to quickly/easily gain an intel presence in a large area.

less sats per area also means less defensive infrastructure required.

Assuming almost all platforms and other items are on the same plane (which they almost all are) then looking at Pi x Radius(squared) the advanced satellite covers 5625Km and the normal 900 km.
A 6.25X difference in coverage. If we are talking about a sphere rather than the area of a circle - then there is not much difference in cost per cubic Km covered between the two. But as almost all items in X4 are on the plane of the elliptic - that rarely matter.

Dropping normal satellites near stations away from the superhighway. Essp when there are 2 or 3 together was my tactic. Those stations are served a lot less and are generally "hungrier" for resources than those sat right on the highway. One cheap satellite often covering 3, sometimes even 4 station.
