How do I use the Deep Scanner to find stuff?

How does it work?

Open quick action Menu
Activate Long Range Scan Ship Mode
Use your Secondary Weapons (missles) Button (hold for ~2 seconds) to activate a Pulse
Use your Map to ID unknown pings discovered with a long range scan Pulse. (use Map very hard to see from cockpit)
Close in to unknow ping tp investigate. Contine to release a puilse as you close in, it will be IDed as a lock box with a lock icon on your mini map
For the recover lock box missions they are usually within the shere indicated in the mission guidance.

Press shift 3 to switch to long range scan mode
Point your ship in a direction
Push and hold R for a second or two
Release R
Watch as the scan flies outward from your ship. You can even switch to map mode (M) and watch as question marks start popping up (usually stations, but can also find lockboxes this way. The ones I've found show a yellow ping)

I thank them because even though the tutorial told me to do the exact thing, they did not have some pretentious snarky remarark and from one gamer to another decided "Im gonna help this person... There was nothing rude about it . It was a simple question .
And your questions , let everyone know , that you don´t want to use the time on taking the tutorials , therefor you ask instead , but for a quicker way .
But hey , if you did the tutorials , you did them . But then ask yourself this : Why the heck ask what you already know ?
It´s just plain dumb .

I just finished the 7.th tutorial . I am about to start the one in space where I have to have a captain and an extra ship . No tutorial tells me how to get that , so I am trying to find out . And by not asking in here , before I have tried many times over , I learn a lot on the way as well .
I am doing what the tutorials have taught me so far , but there is no income so far .

Remember , nothing rude about a simple question .

There is something rude about a simple question IF...get ready: It's simple AND rude.

You asked a rude question and then replied by denying it and then calling the person dumb. If you're going to be a jerk, just own up to it and have some damn pride.

If you don't want to actually behave like a human in a supportive community maybe find somewhere else to play.


I am not a mentat capable of memorizing the 50 key commands in the tutorials and appreciate finding my answer here. Guess I am just plain dumb for not having perfect recall like you. Have pity on us lesser beings.

Short Range scan mode is for stations Shift 2 and you don't need to do anything special but fly around with it.

Long Range Scan can find many things stations, lock boxes, anomalies, and even wares floating in space. You hit Shift 3 and Press and hold the L key for a charge and let go. If you hold too little or too long it will not function properly. Then on your map you might see ? symbols of where something is giving you a ping.

i spend 95% of my time in a ship being flown by a pilot, and i am constantly looking at the map or too busy to fly myself.
