How to get mining ships started?

So I bought 3 mining ships, 2 M and 1 S, 2 of which are mineral miners and one of which is a gas miner, I told them to mine somewhere that looked good and they filled up. Sooooo now what? I told them "Auto Trade (Galaxy)" but it doesn't look like they're doing anything. How do I make a profit now that they're all full on stuff?

Click around in their menus a bit, advanced menu maybe?, and you can set their Default Behavior to Mining, this is what you require.

set the default order to auto mining (1 star pilot ) the set what material they should mine and how many jumps are permitted. they will mine and sell automatically if you have explored enough so they know stations to sell to.

You change the ship's behaviour to automine, tell it what to mine, and how far to go to mine/sell and off it'll go.
