Satellites
If a station is 300 km from a gate do I have to put in a string of satellites for the traders to know about the station and have them overlap so I have a solid colored octagon path from the gate to the station?

It just needs to cover the station itself

Just one at the station will work.

I don't understand the range then. I guess that is the coverage in case there are multiple stations.

Just curious b/c I found a million credit trade route per run. Autotrade is working as long as I put my Mercury Vanguard at the station that has the low cost product and then set them to trade within a range. You kind of have to 'nudge' them in the right direction and then they figure it out.

Exactly. Satellites also reveal ships within the area. Handy for finding construction ships until you can afford your own.

if you drop a satelite and leave that area, check the station about his Trade Prices, there is Yes or No. if the Station Name a little darker its not scanned, if its a little bit lighter its scanned.

What do Advanced Satellites do?! These things are insanely expensive and have no freaking information about them.

So far so good. Let me see if the trader goes back to the station selling the product.

Much bigger ranges. The regular satellite has a radius of 30km(?), the advanced has 75km.

Edit: In x3 they also allowed building in a 3d map, but you don't need them for that in x4.

Im doing a Teladi guildquest and I think to reach 100 coverage you need it since I tried to drop down satelites within the deignated area but the coverage sometimes droped when i droped the next one. So i think they try to say, you need a fat one to cover the whole damn thing.

I haven't used them myself because I can't afford them yet, but their range is 75km, compared to standard satellites range of 30km.

So typing while in fast travel not a good idea. I crashed. Travelling is so awesome in this game. So much better than XR and ED.

Do they atleast show resources?! That would make them significantly more usefull.

Resource probes do that, but it's currently being debated whether they do anything for the AI.

Just the same, as regular satellites, but 75 km radius instead of 30 km.

Let's say, for instance, you need some eyes in a Xenon Sector. Perhaps you're anticipating an attack and don't yet have the resources to just go in and bulldoze the sector. You can drop regular satellies and protect them with laser towers, but their coverage is small and you'll have to place more satellites and laser towers to get decent coverage in the system.

Advanced Satellites would provide more coverage than two satellites, require half the laser towers to protect than the two satellites, and the risk of losing your deploying ship isn't as much because he's only dropping 5-10 deployables rather than 20-30.

They have their uses, but for the beginner it really is better to just drop regular satellites.
