Finding good crew?
Hi guys,

can anyone tell me how to find good captains? Or at least how to see all of their stats before hiring them?

I usually only see two stats, like engineering when I want to hire someone.

Also: Can I hire staff and just have them sit in a ship, for later use in other ships?

The easiest way is to buy a new ship and select a captain and crew in the crew tab during the order process. Then you can ferry them around to other ships as needed. If you have crew on your ship they will work for you but you can always move them to a different ship via the map.

Thanks!

How do I transfer them to another ship when in space?

You can click a ship on the map and select information then under the crew tab is the pilot, call them and in the dialogue options there is an option to reassign them. I haven't done it with service crew or marines yet but I bet it works similar. Might be a good idea to have both ships you want to transfer between docked at a station.

its really annoying!
you have to REALLY micromanage crews down to running around stations and finding them.

Because commands are blocked behind skill ranks.
really really annoying. GL gettign a decent fleet up and running in this game.

But the crews you get when buying a ship are decent?

Does crew transfer work for you? If I have 2 ships docked at the same station and I want to transfer the crew from one ship to the other I have to make every single one captian before I can transfer them. If I call them via the info menu directly they don't do ♥♥♥♥.

I found you get better crew when yoiu buy a ship and crew it through the buy options, also you can only transfer crew while docked. you cant while in space unless reassining your ship

I know when I bought the scrap ship for story, was 3 star pilot, but then I bought crew at shipyard for 5k and still had all 0 stars, so not sure what the deal with them is yet.

I been reading threads all day so one thing I did read this morning was someone commented that they went to an AI Captial ship (landed on it) and found that its crew were all pretty High star ratings. So seems the ships running around have pretty good crew. And you can hire them. :)

I think the good pilots and staff member are hanging around in the bars or so (at least that's what I would do as a game dev... or captian :D). That beeing said, I don't have a clue how to find stations that have a bar.

Also what do the numbers mean if you talk to someone?

Bars seem to be limited to finding black marketeers thus far. I believe the numbers are a rough estimate of the npc's skill in that area.

Hire people from big ships. They're better almost universally.

Here are a few things I have learned...from spending too much time hunting for crew for my large ships.

Found crew (besides captains) are better if you are willing to spend the time. To find them find a station that has a couple "Luxury Docks." Every time you enter a whole new group will be generated to look through, but be quick, they are all going to run for the exits.

Crew show one of two types, Engineering and Boarding. Below that stat is Moral. There are a couple things worth knowing here. Fist is that what you see is not the real value of the individual. Sometimes when you hire someone you will find there best skill is not one of the three previously listed above. Given enough time and looking, you will get full star managers or pilots. Similarly, I have found the crew is almost as good in Engineering as in Boarding. This leads to the second tip, the price to hire is often a better gauge that looking at the stars if you are looking for something that is not the facial stat. Prices seem to range from 500 - 4000. 4000 will be more than a full star usually and will translate to a second tier crew or marine. I don't pay less than 3000 for a crew/marine as a rule.
