How to change captain?
I've bought transporter ship. Captain bundled with it was so bad, that I couldn't even set "Autotrade" behavior. So I called him, told him that he's fired.
Aaaand there is no way to hire new one.
I can promote captain from crewmen. But since you can only hire apprentice crewmen (and they never improve) - promoted captain has one star in one skill at best.

I moved the ship to shipyard. Removed all the crew. Still, upgrade ship window shows that the has a captain, and there 1/21 crew members (while its 0/21 in information screen).

Only solution I see for now - get to station, where ship is docked, manually hire someone (while walking on station), assign as captain and pray that they will have good enough skills.
WUT?

Yeah, I've tried changing captains too, seems there's no way for it to recognise you've fired all the crew onboard, so you basically get to hire a 0 piloting skill engineer or marine to fly your ship.

Ok have walked around trading station - there is no one with piloting sklills to hire.

So. If you bought a ship for autotrade (for example), and got captain with skills too low - you have to SELL the ship and BUY new one.
That the ONLY way to get a new captain.

Egosoft, are you kidding?

I believe you can go on board another ship and poach their captain
