I love the game but I feel a bit lost

I have intalled the game, I ran a few tutorials but I feel like I have not clicked with the game. I am not sure what to do and why.
I also feel like I need a big cheat sheet with comands and handy stuff.
What would be a first thing to do? Some mining maybe? Can I mine right away in the game?.
I came to this game escaping hand holding console games and now I feel like a kid lost in a park, ...

first thing first do few missions in that starting ship you should be able to do some missions that can get you couple of hunderd thousand credits after that you can buy another ship to send it out to trade for you but make sure to select that item you want it to buy, just in case it start buying illegal stuff that cops get it to drop making you lose money.

while its doing that you are free to do what ever you want, your trader will get you money and rep with factions allowing you to buy and build your own empire.

I was about to make this same post. Veteran PC gamer here though I just am not sure what to do. I think I’d like to learn more about the factions and build rep with them. Or just drift around a while and explore. Speaking of which what’s the best way to explore the map?

That's alright to feel lost it's kinda of the point in these games in one form or another so what you do is just pick up odd jobs usually they say difficulty and payout take whatever is easy then just do make some cred go to a wharf buy the ships you need for the grand goal that you have (if you have one) wether thats trade or something else. Also look up some tutorials

Yea stations will have a gold marker under them if they have missions you can also check mission offers for missions under the map.

I started as the explorer and in the first system i was able to get one of the main quests. I won't spoil it but it's a Boron that contacts you and asks you to conduct some experiments. I found the mission by scaning one of the stations. Beyond that i have just been doing some missions and exploring along the way.
