What is the easiest way to scan a sector?

I can so far only see the bits of a sector where I have flown. Apparently the shift+3 long range scan doesn't remove the "fog of war". I'm trying to find some space highways and find more tradestations. Can anyone share with me what the best way is of how to go about this?

The easiest way being the explore-function for an AI pilot as you can just lean back and watch it get explored.
That's not working as it should currently so you can forget that. Yes, I'm terribly helpful.

There are advanced satellites. I wonder whether those would help you? I havent used one yet. Maybe they have longer range than the standard ones?

Until explore works better, you can just use a series of "Fly to:" waypoints on an AI controlled ship to manually explore while you do other things.
