No, that's something else. :p
There are Accelerators, superhighways, local highways, jumpgates, and wormholes.
Basically every external mode of transportation they’ve used in past games.
Regular highways have clear end point gateways but you can enter onto the highway at any point. Whilst 'Super' highways are essentially giant loops that span a huge area of space.
Each highway has two lanes each going in a different direction, you can jump on and off a highway at any point you wish by just flying into the highway to jump onto it and get carried in the direction that highway is going, and aim your ship off the highway to jump off it.
Essentially wormholes in space. Many will have a natural repulsion force emitted from them so you'll need to really throw yourself at them to enter. These will transport your ship to another seemingly random point in space (outside of mission specific anomalies which will transport you to pre-scripted locations).
Contrary to some information sources, after entering a wormhole and exiting out the other side from another turning around and entering the wormhole you just exitted from doesn't neccesarily return you where you came from.... so be wary.

Now why ruin the joy of exploration?
I wonder if we will put our stations - will it change economy to be boosting? So more life and ships around?
