Where are the jump drives?
^

Also, are they restricted to ship sizes, like they were in X:R?

That is a question I would like to see as well. This would be the first X-Game I've played where Jump drives arn't a thing.

There are jump beacons so they exist.
Ember Dec 2, 2018 @ 3:43pm
jump drives have been replaced with the teleporter, you have to have a ship at a the destination and researched enough of the teleporter to get there. and your ship wont go with you on a teleport

atleast that is what ive seen from the devs before launch

Thats stupid. Teleporters were in the previous games (Excluding X-Rebirth) along with Jump Drives.

Nice its a different system. but it makes sense.
The system in x rebirth was not working at all.
you tried to get your owned ships to follow you and they would all arrive at vastly different times.
So This idea if this is what replaced it for x4 makes sense. and whoever came up with it at egosoft to solve the problem. can only say bravo.

Honestly. I really hope Jump drives can be accessable with L and XL cap ships. I would rather have a ship able to jump to a beacon then right where I want it to go.

Pretty sure the dev blogs for X4 mentioned they got rid of jump drives on the whole. Since well, we have highways, gates, accelerators and the travel drive to get around, which they deemed to be plenty of options. One of the devs mentioned they always saw the old jump drive as a neccesary evil in a way, since you couldn't be everywhere in your empire to help out all the time. So now they replaced it with teleporters.

I feel your pain though. They were nice to have. Maybe we'll get them back in future updates.

I hope so. I liked that I could quickly jump to a sector of space to quickly defend against an attack on one of my installations. X-Rebirth had a great way of forcing larger ships to jump to beacons. Had a nice spool up and jump animation. Was really hoping to see that in X4.

The map is actually pretty small and there's a highway loop insuring nowhere is ever really that far.

They better put these back in.

I'm hoping they do add them back in as I would love to have escape jump points set up for my capital ships if they are on the verge of being defeated by the overwhelming Xenon force. (Que BSG Music)

Now you don't get quick to the place of action but instantenous.

Teleporter have the same tactical use as a Jumpdrive just better kinda.

Make sure you have always some kind of force projection at any given time spread around your assets and you golden.

The only thing that is now a thing of the past is the one Golden Ship Strategie jumping around all over the place in you single Golden Star Fighter.

Imho the change is most welcome and at least for a lmited time keeps the expansion of a player reigned in.

Weren't jump drives still a mod in X3 games? I vaguely remember having to access the jump drive in those games through a mod menu to use it. Maybe they implemented something in AP but I'm almost positive TC at least had no vanilla jump drive.

Either way, teleporters have way more utility jump drives at the highest research level. It's freaking awesome to be able to teleport into a trading ship under assault and save it before it explodes, or over to the faction stations real quick to check on a blueprint from a faction representative, or to pick up a newly built ship, or to quickly go back to base to check on something without having to stop what you're doing and fly out of your way. Ships don't take that long to travel on their own now anyway. Now we have a lot more options being a truly separate part of our fleets and empires.

I'm not saying any of these points are not valid and have no merit. As I really love the fact the teleporting is a thing especially in a dicey situation. But Its the option that I would like to have roleplay wise I guess.

Not sure what game you played, but Jump drives are vanilla in X3, X2...
