Im not sure but i think some you create at workbench / workshop. Or some you find from boxes.. im not sure but i think crystals have the things to build it too. I might be wrong..
Security Slicer -- For hacking turret terminals on stations.
Security Bypass System -- NO KNOWN USE, DO NOT CRAFT (sell the ingredients or craft the other two instead)
I've gone through several worm holes and am well on my way to working out a lot of the map.
I've watch a bunch of youtube guides and they treat this stage as trivial but I can't get past it. I think I might be done. I don't need the game to hold my hand but jesus why aren't the basic crafting supplies available?
Most of the crafting in X4 is done with a list of three ingredients per recipe, with one of the ingredients being the "rare one".
For example, for Fine Meals, the "Rare Spices" are NOT the rare one, the Fruit is. But one of the three items is rare.
Your AGI Heuristic Cores can be easily found in two ways: Loot dropped from killing lots of Xenon ships, or simply purchased from Black Market traders.
The killing-lots-of-xenon way is simpler than it may seem, even in the early game. You just need to find a big space battle outside a gate leading to xenon space, dodge around the battle collecting all the loot drops. If you don't shoot anyone, mostly nobody shoots back. :)
To find Black Market Traders, scan stations and look for missions (the kind that start with a signal leak recording: "I have work that needs doing") that are typically fetch missions called "A lucrative opportunity" or "Opportunity Knocks" or some such. They will request a handful of items, sometimes easily bought from the trader who requested them, other times much harder to obtain. You don't even need to complete the quest, just accept it, then you can go into the station bar and trade with the trader to purchase some AGI Heuristic Cores. And conveniently, there is a crafting bench in the Bar as well.
Sedatives for first aid kits are indeed very rare, mostly found in lockboxes. To find lockboxes, use your long range scanner from near every station: point in each cardinal direction (+X, -X, +Z, -Z, +Y, -Y) and send out one good pulse. Then check your map for new ? icons. If you don't find any on from your first position, fly about 50-100 kilometers away and try again. I just make a habit of using the Long Range Scanner from every station I visit, just in case, even while I'm doing other tasks.
However, note that First Aid Kits themselves aren't in very high demand.
Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed post. Re: First Aid kits - I had watched a video saying that first aid kits were a good way to make money in the early game. I didn't look at the date on the guide so maybe it was out of date.
I did finally make some money this evening mining crystals. I found a guide that was fairly specific. it directed me to look for the twinkling reflection on asteroids. I was trying to use short range and long range scanning to find them. You just have to look! I did find quite fa few worm holes as well and a couple of data vaults though so I've filled out the map a bit. I actually feel like I'm making progress now. Thanks again for your help.
Here's the guide in case anyone else is have trouble making cash up front: https://www.naguide.com/x4-foundations-crystal-mining/
That actually sounds really useful! Can you walk me through the steps on how to use the tool this way? Do you get in your space suit? What part of the space station do you hack?
