Mysterious Things I'd like to Understand
1) After doing a Long Range Scan, there's occasionally a purple aura that blasts out in space, not on the HUD, that I cannot fly to in time to discover what it was.

2) Sectors often just have black hex squares, but some of them I fly through have Red, Purple, and other color outlines. Some are blocked out in solid red, such as the field of asteroids I'm currently in without a station. What do those mean?

3) Resource probes. I seem to drop them, don't seem to see anything happen around these asteroids, and can't seem to pick them up. Can't interact with them in the spacesuit. What's going on with these? Can I recover them?

4) I am having trouble finding good deals. I've opened up the super highway, travelled to about 100 stations, all within the time frame of my data not expiring. Yet, it's pretty rough out there, not seeing much good to trade in, and I'm scared to buy stuff just to hold in my starter ship since I cannot just simply sell it at a loss. What are approaches to this? I'm thinking about going into mining, but I cannot afford a mining ship since I've just been flying around exploring to find stations.

5) I've got a lot of drift on my joystick, and even after I calibrate, the dead zones setting doesn't seem to do anything. Joy stick issues are incredibly common, but they come and go at such a degree it's can't be the hardware. Sometimes the ability to steer goes out ENTIRELY, where I can't pull the stick in any direction and have it respond. It was so bad I started trying to dig through menus for about twenty minutes looking to see if I had run out of fuel! Anyone else getting this?

Purple auras are anamolies. When you long range scan the pings that show up only show for a limited time. You have to pulse again to keep them showing or get them to appear again.

Color coded hexes are resource areas.

Purple=resurce satalite go out space suit and repare all it gives you like 400k revard

1) Keep pinging the scanner to try and localise the source, could be something really hard to see.

2) Red, Purple etc.. denote resources like gas or ores, 3) here is where resource probes become handy.

4) Top right hand corner of the map, there is a filter search box, underneath the settings for the filters for the map. If you have discovered so many stations try to zoom out and play with the filters to try and find a good deal. Also if you see stations under construcction they will need materials. You can fly into asteriods and look for shiny things that you can blast with your initial weapon and then sell to traders in stations.

5) Make sure no other hardware is plugged like a steering wheel and so on, also check this settings:

There are a few things to check that may help your issues with joysticks in game options.

- Adjust the dead zones 5 %
- Gamepad mode OFF
- Confine mouse to window ON
- Adaptative steering ON
- Bidirectional throttle ON

I understand this conceptually, of course.

What I'm saying is I've done this, and I cannot find ANY commodity that ANY station is willing to pay for more than the price of what it is sold.

Why?

Do we know what the resource colors are?

Red seems to be a lot of Asteroids and some Gas to me?

there is a legend on the map

Ping with your range scanner, then switch to the map quickly, the signals will pop up in the map, then right click and set your course there. That is how I have been doing it.

Ok... silly question.

Perfect lines of sight, no to limited atmospheric interference (there do somee to be clouds some places) and the radio is only good within 10 km. Soo... I have to conclude that we have heath kit 1960s' walkie talkies as our comm board.

Another mystery... you get periodic small ships that are red... I tend to kill them. One time I get a rep boost and a reward, I do it again to another I see... And my crime is logged and I take a rep hit. I can't understand why.

4) A decent way to make early money is to farm crystals on asteroids. Look for red on the map and check asteroid fields that are not covered in ice. Stand still and watch for lights flashing on them. Fly there and shoot the crystals. Hold O to collect them. Repeat. Then fly to any station and dock. Get up and look for a huge blue shopping basket sign. Go there and you'll find a black market trader. Sell all the stuff under "trade wares" including the collected crystals.

I have seen them on ice asteroids its just so rare compared to ore asteroids that I don't know why I'm even telling you this.

This happens around stations. I make sure that when I'm shooting at one of these "recently identified criminals" I don't have the station _behind_ my target. If you shoot past, miss, etc, all that will be identified as attacking a station and a crime.

How can this half puppy, half lizard creature be a space faring alien is a mystery.

OP isn't talking about pings with LR scanners. He's talking about the purple haze when you fire scanners at asteroid fields. It's not the ping, it's like a purple fog that appears.
