Is there an autopilot dock feature?
I bought a docking software package, but how do I get the autopilot to dock for me? Also, when I dock manually, and leave my ship, my player drifts forward even when I'm not walking. How do I stop this?

Docking software just helps you the last meters. Hire a pilot/captain and let him do the docking.

With the docking software, it should take over when you're hovering in above the landing pad. Still need to get docking permission, fly to the pad with the hologram, then ease into the spot until the docking computer just takes over. I think the Mk1 you have to be closer to the actual landing spot whereas the Mk2 you don't have to be as close, but I don't really know this for sure, just kinda guessing.

One thing I wish for is as much better description of these types of things. When buying a component or software for your ship, it sure would be nice to have more information about it. I haven't bought any software because I don't know what the hell they do...

This is one of the things that was so easy to get to, thanks to 1000+ hours of elite. I'm glad the docking is like this, as it adds a cool bit of potential realism.

I find it easiest to line up 1 of the points at a time. Green the circle, align the /\, move forward to the long --------, then go down slowly until it captures you.

Not having to try and move a massive cargo ship through a tiny slit opening like in Elite makes this much easier to do overall. Time and practice and you'll have it! Good luck Teladi :x4teladi:

I got the level 1 docking software and when I approach the dock it automatically gets permission and docks my ship even if I'm not lined up with the dock

Level 1 docking software helps you a little bit, the level 2 takes over even earlier. But so far I do like the docking mechanics, as they add something to the game. Though I would like to see the docking sofrware upgrades to even a better job as in fly closer then 1km of the station request docking and then the docking software takes over and not when you are already inside the dock almost touched down.

Interesting... It didn't do that for me, but then I manually got permission before I approached the dock... I'll have to try it without getting permission first. I'd be kind hesitant about it though because the drunk autopilot from X3AP is back, and even drunker. I certainly don't trust it.

you even get automatic docking permision as soon as you enter the space that limits your speed, even without docking software, at least that is my experience.

Docking software MkII is best way for easy docking.
