With the new system, the ship starts turning when you move the mouse off center. It stops turning when you move your mouse back to center.
The key difference here is that in the former control system action = turning, inaction = no turning. In the new system you have to manually start turning, AND you have to manually stop turning, which in some cases is difficult if you lost track of where your mouse is pointing.
edit: Admittedly, it's a subtle, but key difference.
For me the actual way its a pain and a no go to buy the game , and that is sad because i was a big fan of X3 and have been waiting this game for a long time...
Boresight control is gone. Sadly. Also, there's no option to invert. So people that play mouse inverted get screwed by the mouse diff thing. It's not even like it's impossible. Elite has a better 'diff' based system IMHO, that also allows for invert. Don't know why they don't make it more like that one.
In any case, had to switch to full keyboard for this title. Boresight's been gone since Rebirth. Blah.

What I learned from this is that the game designer (whoever you are) is an idiot!
You design the controls to "follow the dot" when using a mouse, witch means the aim has VERY bad accuracy, then you put small targets on a spinning box and think you just made a good game element. Well, shame on you! Bad designer!
Small targets dont go well with bad accuracy, you should never design a game to have them both.
Also, the game takes a terrible long time to save and load, witch is an even worse combination with the above bad accuracy and tiny targets!
So the players find lockboxes, saves before trying to shoot the small locks because they know they'll most likely fudge it up because of the bad accuracy, waits for the saving to be done.. waits... waits some more.. finaly they get to shoot the hit the box, misses, it explodes and the player hits load... and waits.. and waits... and waits.. and get to try again, shoots, hits the target, make a new save just in case, waits... waits... waits... ALT-F4 cant stand this ♥♥♥♥, Im off to play Elite Dangerous and cool down.
What I'm saying is, either fix the mouse/keyboard so we can pinpoint small targets, or remove bad game elements that dont mix together. ("Kill your darlings", first thing you learn as a game developer)
You pretty much want your mouse like a joystick. They havent finished it yet. When they do it will be in the settings. Even adding the invert mouse for it too.
Middle mouse (not sure if default) shoots at cursor with only a small margin of error (if you are too close to target, weapon's wont aim at same spot). You can pinpoint very easily, but the first shot can fire straight forward because it's dumb and weapons take a sec to aim.
did they change if u open a menu this will be deactivated and u must press the shift+n combo to reactivate it?
if i remember correctly there is a setting to switch to direct mouse input but its just from the top of my head so i could be wrong
Wohoo, they added bore sight and I indeed got through a fairly satisfying playthrough a few month ago.
I don't remember having to constantly hit it while going through all the empire menus. But it could also be so baked into my muscle memory that I didn't notice it. I can probably reinstall and check if it's a buying decision make/break thing for you.
good they added it maybe i give the game a second chance after all the time because this was one of the bigger problems i had with the game.
i don´t get why so many people complain about "necromancing" without people like him many other people like me woulnd know that the problem discussed is solved or still persistent like in some other games...
as long it is the same topic why making 100 of threads of the same topic and make it harder for people to find a solutions/or infos when there would be so many threads...
Dude, I just stumbled upon your thread while trying to find the same exact answer you were looking for, and then found the solution in another thread on Reddit shortly after. Since *I* stumbled across this thread in search of an answer, I thought I'd try to help other people who might find themselves in the same exact boat.
I wasn't trying to dunk on you, the OP, or anything else. I was trying to help other people who might be having the same issue you and I were, and apparently it's already helped at least one person. I'm not sure why that bothers you.
