How do you disable "Chase the Dot" mouse steering?
I have always hated "chase the dot" as a steering method for mouse, as it always leaves me drifting when I don't want to. I prefer to have a hard axis attached to mouse movement. X3:TC allowed you to toggle between the modes, but I can't find the option here.

For those that don't understand, Hard axis is when you move the mouse up, your ship will pitch down as fast as you move, or the maximum speed the ship can pitch, which ever is slower. Same with the Yaw. Also if you hold hte mouse still, the ship will immediately stop pitching or yawing.

I managed to find a thread on the extremely slow Egosoft forums where they specifically said that Egosoft isn't supporting it any longer, which is a shame as I'm probably going to have to refund the game. I don't enjoy a game when I am constantly fighting with the controls.

Try it this way: when u flight araound e.g. a station staer the ship to a point where u have free flight for a bit and shuuft+space aut of aoutofolloow and when u need to make a courve shift+Space back to make it and thaen again to flight staight so u wont need to rely on a deadpoint thats the way i come along best.
What? Those are English words, but I'm not convinced that they represent an English thought.

Well, as I said, if this is going to be the only mouse control scheme they want to permit, I don't think I'll be enjoying the game at all, or buying any of their future games. Refusing to support binding of the mouse axes to pitch and yaw is rediculous.

I opened thread for exact same issue, no idea why it's been removed because "Chase the dot" steering as you call it sucks... Bring back boresight steering, make X great again

it's just like rebirth. I was also annoyed that the boresight steering didn't exist anymore. Despite that many complained about it, they decided again not to implement it... a pity, because I hate this chase the dot in all the games i have played so far, whether ground vehicles or aircrafts, it's just total crap for me. But yes you can get used to it but still I feel very uncomfortable with this control method in dogfights.

To be fair, I want to say I am sorry about teasing you on this. I was a little offended by some of the other people who would rather everyone only have the choice they like rather than there being more choices on how to do things. For a moment I thought you were just trying to continue that thread.

That and lack of sleep over the last few days has made me irritable.

Shift+Space to disable this
CTRL+Space to disable flight assists :D
Neither of these does what I ask. Thank you.

the only question you asked was "How do you disable "Chase the Dot" mouse steering?" They did indeed answer your question. You seemed to have move the goal post or forgetten a Question mark.

he wants controls like x3:reunion and before, where you move the mouse, and the ship gives feedback until mouse stops moving. i cant help with that function, but maybe i can help someone understand his request better.

I hate this steering method too. I think I'm going to have to dig out my HOTAS to make this playable. The dot makes it very difficult to do up/down if you're used to invert controls. At least thats the issue I am running into.

It seems like a perfectly normal steering method to me, and it follows alot of other standard steering mechanisms in other games.... Out of sincere curiosity, what is this boresight steering you mention?

Actually no it does not. The "Chase the Dot" is where you move your mouse to where you want to go, and then the ship tries to follow. This doesn't change with either Shift+Space or Ctrl+Space. The former simply makes it do it whether or not you hold LMB, and the latter just stops compensating for inertia. Mouse steering has only one mode, and the correct answer is "You can't change it back to the way it used to be."

If you go and play Elite Dangerous you will encounter another perfectly normal steering method, the one I want. If you go play Eve Online you will also encounter this steering method. Same with every X game Before X3:TC, and both X3:TC and X3:AP also supported the mode even though it wasn't default. In fact, the majority of Space Simulators use this method, all the way back to Wing Commander, or even Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Chase the Dot was developed for platforms that benefited from touch screen controls, and is not a good mouse control system for fine tuning your steering.

I dunno, I hit Shift+Space, and my ship steers whereever I move it to, and seems like it's |chasing the dot", and when I press Shift+Space, then my ship steers by mouse if I click and hold LMB... That's not chasing the dot? I don;t see the difference when it's off? I move my mouse, and ship follows it with no clicking...
