how to dock please?

I did shift+d, station is welcoming me to dock, I see green tutorial where to dock... but I can not land . what is the trick? I played all X games from very first one, but can not manage to land :( its frustrating, but game looks promising still .... thx

- Manually docking the first time was confusing as hell. Not only must you follow the easy to see green lines to the docking zone, you need to line yourself up with your pad. This is best done by looking for a hologram. You need to roll (tilt side to side with q and e), align the front of your starship (hold mouse1 and turn to face), and get yourself lined up with the centre of the pad (z and x to put throttle backward and forward, or mousewheel also works), then hit s to go down and land. Quicksave often really, not just for docking but for missions and such too. Game can get a little wonky so close to launch.

Ok I was trying to dock manually in the tutorial, and ended up passing trough the station, I'm now inside it, yet not docked, and I can't escape it, I'm stuck there :(
I'll restart a game, but I think I'll take the habit to quicksave before docking next time... lol

yeah its eveywhere... u can see inside persones, u can stuck with lifts, u can do through tstations while landing... but I can survive it, if I can for once ing sake land at all :D

S key is a great find, but still not enough. I line every thing up green ---> V <--- but S key still just bounces off the bottom or gets stuck in the interior. Maybe I will take a break, by tomorow someone might have done an idiots guide.

(It was easier docking in Elite on my Amiga in the 1990s, just saying.)

I maanaged to dock now, but it was super frustrating before. presing F2 helps a lot as you can see whole ship and your position against station precisely. still u need to do it slowly

Also make sure you align with the docking hologram. It starts out red and turns green when you're aligned. It's difficult to find unless you've seen it before, though. There's a three-arrow line pointing to it from your nose. ( Like >>>) in orange. Follow that, you'll see the hologram I'm talking about. Remember to align side to side, with A and D. I forgot to say that.

It was the same for me. But I has one red circle on the top of the read lines. I needed to put the cross hair in that red circle if that makes sense.

So even with the S key being pressed and everything aligning, I've noticed that the tiny bar above the upward pointing triangle does not seem to represent anything useful. Even when all is green that line can still be red and lowering oneself seems to have no effect. I just try it several times until it magically works.

Get docking confirmation and fly to pad with green ghost of ship. Roughly orientate yourself like the green ghost. Now align the markers. The middle circle must be in the middle of the screen. Use wasd and z(y in mainland EU)x for the rest. This is very slow and annoying.

In other posts I have given many alternatives to manually docking, including buying a docking computor, ordering the ship captain to do it and even teleporting away and treating it like any other ship from the map.

This is frustrating the hell out of me. Already a hour wasted just trying to figure out how to land on a damn dock. I miss those days that you could just give a simple command to your ship to auto dock somewhere.

Ah done it :)
Key steps.
Ignore green line with dot in until you are hovering over the landing pad you see the green ship landing on.
The turn and look at gree line with dot and arros

While hovering over pad were green ship was landing you need to pres a,w,d and s until it is all green. Then pressing s will land you.
