How to capture a small freighter?

So i managed to let an "enemy" freighter pilot to leave his ship. Now the tutorial tells me to scan the ship, so I can do something and than it is mine. However this doesnt seem to work. I am in my spacesuit right before the empty ship, press shift + f3 and I am not 100% sure what I have to do now. Do I need a certain extension for my spacesuit? I hope somebody has managed to do this already

It told me to Shift+2 it and then it said I claimed it but its still blue and wont let me claim it D:

Had the same problem, managed to figure it out:

Merchant ships seem to be classed as large ships, so they need to be boarded to claim. To do this talk to an NPC on a station and recruit them as a Marine. Fly to the abandoned ship and from your ship open the context menu (F or RMB) on the abandoned ship. Select 'Claim', the marine will deploy, and after a minute or so the ship should be yours.
