Where can I read about the X series storyline?
I've only played X3: AP. Did they ever explain why the lady terrorist destroyed earth's toroid or whatever it was called? I don't want to read a whole book, just a summary of where things went.

If i recall correctly, X3:TC have a good explanatory cinematic, it will not explain the torus explosion, but will help you especulate it.

on the official website from them you can download the encyclopedia which has a detailed timeline of all the stuff that happend in the x-lore as well explaining the tech, how it works etc - its pretty good.

you can download it here:
https://www.egosoft.com/download/superbox/bonus_en.php
the second download, just click the downlaod button.

Altough you need a X-game in your steam libaray (or old retail boxes work too i think and add them to their egosoft website after you created an account there)

hope this helps

There is also a series of five books/novels by german author Helge T. Kautz. However, only the first novel X: Farnhams Legend is available in english. The other books are only available in german language and unforunitly some are very hard to get because they are not printed or digitally published anymore.

Farnhams Legend is available on as e-book on amazon and it explains the background of the gate-network and the (later) conflict between the argon and the terrans pretty well:

There is some story in a strange thing called "X3 Reunion Manual" that once apon a time came with a DVD and a box, yup! actual pysical items you can touch, smell and read (long gone are those days). Unfortunately it's too long to type it out here. Also Seem to have lost my X2 old box set so I sure could do with catching up on the story as well since I never played X3 Reunion much either.

If I remember correctly these were the facts leading up to the destruction of the Torus station and the following war.

The Torus station was destroyed because of the tactical advantage it gave the Terrans, the Torus station basically made Earth unassailable. On top of that the Terrans were technologically more advanced then the Commonwealth Races, and of course they refused to share their technology.

Finally the Terrans also were sending their ships on excursions into Commonwealth space without permission, or announcing the purpose of the ships straining relationships with the other races. These facts all added up to the various groups agreeing that the Terrans had to be stopped

The Torus was destroyed so that it would be possible to wage a successful campaign against the Terrans and start a full blown war between the Terrans and the Commonwealth races.

edit: spelling

Thank you. Sounds like the Terrans were bullies and not very diplomatic while the other races had technology envy. I still don't understand the regret the terrorist woman had when she blew up the torus station. The video made a point to show her sadness which doesn't seem to fit the story as I understand it.

The Terrans were more xenophobic then bullies, they were terrified that the Terraformers (Xenon) would return to Sol, and horrified at the lack of care the Commonwealth nations had in regard to the control and usage of AGI.

Has for her mood she did kill a lot of innocent people on that station, which would cause more innocent people to die in the war. She knew what she was doing would hurt/kill them, and also that she had to do it.

I found this which was helpful:

Is it just me, or does the game misuse the term universe for what should be solar systems and galaxies?

I was rather aghast when I found out that the Argons were actually the antagonists in X3. I always thought they were the ones that got beat-on by the heavy-handed Terrans.
Afro Luigi Nov 27, 2018 @ 5:52pm
Depends who you ask, the Argon were defending themselves and their territory and showing the Terrans that they would not be messed around with. As well as trying to defend themselves from the spies the Terrans were infiltrating them with. So from their point of view you are right.

While the Terrans were defending their interests and figuring out the AGI threat beyond their borders. The Commonwealth was messing around with dangerous AGI tech, and even producing straight up Terraformers, and the Terrans know how dangerous that is. So from their point of view they were protecting people. I admit I lean to the Terran POV myself.

Edit: hell in X3:AP you can choose your side, and therefore who you think is in the right.

I'm of the inclination that the Argons straight-up committed a terrorist act, so...

I always preferred the Terrans anyway. XRM allowed them to win the war, which was great! Perhaps I'll play X3AP again for a while. The Terran ships are dead-sexy anyway.
