put your controler in the second profile slot it wil remove any deadzone issues you might have
you just have to rebind everything your self
or do you mean that the default stuff feels weird?
Personally I don't mind mapping everything as I do that anyway, but there are a few things that can't be mapped easily/at all in the game - for instance I had to do tricks with external software to get 2 of my hat modes to work - strafing with an 8-way hat doesn't exist in this game which seems a bit mad for a space shooter (I had to emulate keypresses and spend ages to find delays that worked), and hat headlook (requires forcing the hat to emulate a mouse, don't even bother integrating the mouselook switch in the bind with the saitek software the game goes nuts, just switch using a button) - two extremely common uses for hats. Firing primary weapon with right mouse and opening context menu with another button, again works with external software but not possible in game settings, mouse steer like x3 for when you're not able to use a stick (haven't worked out a way to do this satisfactorily yet).
So yeah, get specific with us :)
Did you ever got your POV on your stick to work?
So you can look up down left right like you can do with your numpad.
I cant get the pinkie switch to do anything or the POV to work to look around.
The default profile is very basic.
It would be great if the default profile gave you the main keys that are constantly needed.
This is my first X game and only recently started it.
CH has been around longer than Saitek. Saitek was kinda like Huffy on the BMX scene. Looked good but broke quickly. Their quality has gone up, and their software has gotten better, but most of compatibility issues probably reside in their use of directinput, or Xinput as it is called now for the Xbox. MS has desperately tried to screw most of these manufactures over the years. The CH President even wanted to punch Bill Gates at one time for making all their products obsolete in WIn'98 when MS decided to get in on the Joystick market and USB came out and they took the manufactures ability away to upload through the KB port. Not only did the CH pres want to punch BG, but about 50,000 PC gamers felt the same.
Programming them is super easy in X4, most of the mapping I have just done natively in the game's options menu. But they do come with the same software suite that the TM Warthog HOTAS uses, so custom macro's can be designed in either a gui or a script editor for more advanced cases.
Sorry to hijack the thread, though it could help with others on HOTAS support too. :P
You can modify the inputmap.xml file (back up first) located at:
documents > egosoft > X4 > #numbers# > inputmap.xml (right click / edit)
under input actions you can delete the lines that say "input_action_camera...." with numpad key bindings. There are 9 lines, 8 are grouped together while the "input_action_reset_camera" numpad 5 is further up.
Then file / save. You should be able to then assign these buttons ingame.
Instead of deleting the above bindings I modified the lines to my own bindings within inputmap.xml file.
There are a few X52 key mappings uploaded online, just google it pal.
