Communism in space

I am trying to recreate USSR in space and X4 provides lots of possibilities in that regard:

• Industrial espionage and sabotage.
  
• Planned economy via transfer orders.
  
• Mass tank capital ship production.
  
• Population genocide.

The only thing that seems to be missing is the ability to completely abolish money. Is it possible to recruit true comrades who work for free on my ships(assuming I have shipyard)? What about inventory items(like ship upgrades, emp bombs)?

USSR was not communist, it was a socialist dictature. For genocide it is perhaps an allusion to the holodomor.

Otherwise it is very easy at X4 to create a brutal dictature, because everybody obey without asking any questions. You have under your orders docile slaves (you buy them but dont pay them). With that all excess are possible.

I believe you don't have to pay wage in the first place? And if all of your units were forbid from trading with faction then they won't use money at all. (can you sustain the economy though?)

Yes, as BLKCandy identifies, the key lies in controlling the means of production from end to end, then you can stop external trade if you like.

You will have to start out as a feasible economy before switching, as you will need blueprints etc.

I'd be interested to see if you can do this without total collapse.

I believe it isn't that difficult if you attempt it AFTER you have at least 1 self-sufficient station with full ship parts + claytronics final products and sufficient miners. There is no real upkeep. The expansion and ship replacement would be darn slow and boring for a long while though.

The only thing that is going to collapse is the capitalist world, starting with Teladi, as I annex liberate their core systems.

With the military machine dedicated to warfare production, it's not clear where I can get some good western jeans ship mods. Is it possible to get exception quality components from xenon?
