What happens to sold ships?
Hey, I've been wondering, but never had the patience to keep following them to find out - what do the factions do with the ships I sell them? Do they disappear evetually, or do they use them?

If I sell a combat ship that is barebones, do they just send it to their deaths, or they get equipped eventually?

Ships you sell will go to "Explore" the infinite Void.

Well, I hope that means they just disappear from the game, otherwise eventually there'd be too many of them that the system has to keep track of...

They do disappear once they leave the sector limits.

Maybe that's why eMynock put the "Explore" in quotes? 8-)

i could have been straight and could have said move.die

but going onto an "exploration" adventure in the infinite void sounds better.

Earlier in the year it appeared that the sold ships were going out to NPCs from the shipyards. Did that not work, somehow? I thought it was a good idea. (Or am I thinking of an earlier game?)

you are thinking of an earlier game...

what ever ship is produced in X4 will be used by the AI... with the exception of the already mentioned "Explorers" that got handed to them by the Player.

The X4 Factions don't burn resources to send them into the Void... those Ships get the command they will follow until they die directly when they are ordered...

I know a simple trick you can use. Buy yourself a large ships with no shields, weapons and only 1 crew member. Move it to a non-faction sector.
Now sell it to SCA (pirate faction). You need to see their pirate large station on map for this to work.
Then you simply board it. Now move all your crew out (be sure ship has a landing pod for medium ships).
Sell it again -- repeat the process.

**Add Station Voice**

When ships are sold they go to the great farm in the sky. Where all ships have enough room to play and live out the rest of their days happy chasing comets and UNKNOWN OBJECTS.

Kinda strange move in a "real economy", don't you think? I was selling ships mostly to ALI hoping that would boost their faction. Never followed any ship though to see where it goes. Sad it just disappears.

Also, my shipyard builds ships for other factions and I assume they use it somehow. Or they also just disappear??

Hey, eMynock. How about having the stations recycle the ships into materials to build new NPC ships?

You would not have to fly them out of sector, just delete them and then increment the station store counts. Less CPU load and that way Ozzo's strategy would have an effect... 8-)
