Happiness
If you have systems with 100% happy, does it make a difference if you add a building with extra happiness or is it wasted. Should you add more to 100% or keep it untill your happiness level drops??? Always wondered about this...

Does nothing as far as I've noticed.

There's some wonder or law or something that gives a bonus when happiness above 100%, but it caps at 120%...

Can't for the life of me remember what that was...

But in other words, unless you have that thing that gives you a boost for going past 100%, there's no reason for it.

Unless you're planning to expand a bunch and want to keep your empire happy.

It definitely pays off to acquire a significant "pad" of extra happiness, especially while still expanding (and in the early game, in general).

I think it may play into the total average of the empire. Playing a riftborn custom I made and my happiness in my overcolonized systems was low but main base was crazy estatic. Still devoted overall.

Good point, it will help in that case too.

That is from ESG, one of my favorite laws I've made

But no, any approval above 100% is useless and doesn't contribute towards the average. The patchpreview will now show approval above 100 though so you can actually see how much you have.

Having approval above 100% doesn't provide any benefit in and of itself; it CAN however prevent sudden, unexpected happiness penalties from dropping you below ecstatic. It's better to be over cap and still be good when things happen than to be at cap and THEN have to find more happiness.

I wouldn't sweat a few points over if you're still getting solid benefit out of whatever laws and buildings you've got, though trying to go higher than that is likely a waste of resources and build choices.

The modders could solve the problem if Happiness stats were multiplied rather than added(summed). The maximum value of this parameter (happiness) would be strictly less than 99%. It is not clear whether "multiplication" can be realized.

Why would you multiply it, it's already a percentage? Seems to me like the real issue is that approval is not balanced well, since it is incredibly easy to get above 100.

There should be an indicator showing what you are over as they show what you are under... It would make sense to do it that way so we can know what the happiness is, figure out what laws you can pass knowing what the happiness levels are...

Yes, I added that in the patchpreview, it's already a thing.
