The events have a purpose - they're something fun that rewards you with a prize in the end and a lot of them have cute little stories.
If you don't want the prizes, if you don't want to do the events - then that is fine. That is your right as a player.
But do not belittle the work that people have put into making these events for the FF community by saying they "have no purpose". That's rude.

FF14 does things differently instead of only heaving big anniversary events. while most of the year is dry eventless

They make smaller but way more events every year through out the year.
Allot of them even return if you missed them like colloab events.

i prefer it this way.
