Learn the Ex primal moveset by heart, then Jump when they are not going to oneshot/knock you off the rail. Jump should be utilise at any chance available, free dps.
You should totally move to JP server, they aren't that rude (or even if they are, I don't know what they are saying hence I don't care). Also plenty of good DF (not PF mind you) that mow down everything available to DF while you learn the rope. Not only that they also give you recommendation AFTER they carried you through the fight, like a boss.
"if tank dies, it's probably healer's fault, if healer dies, it's probably tank's fault, if dps dies, it's certainly their own faults"
when ffxiv started out, if it wasnt the server lag that caused dragoon to be bad it was the fact that when you jumped you were animation locked for around... 1.5 seconds? it was pretty insanse trying to dodge a land slide you litterly just jumped back into, thus causeing them to die a whole lot.
the good dragoons could time their jumps to not use them that would kill them, but most casual dragoons just didnt have time for that, and honestly shouldnt have to, which is why the devs changed the animation lock to be like 1/4 or so what it orginaly was.
it could also be the fact that their full thrust at release was 300, then to buff it went up to 330, now its at like 420 or something stupidly high.
That reptilian counterfeit pigeon was notorious for i) getting aggro then dying and ii) getting AOE'd then dying. Then you're a DRG with a large portion of your usefulness (DPS/Healing) gone. Talk about a glass jaw. Then break it.
When you do comparisons between jobs, the DRG was just fine. IF your flying iguana was alive. Anyway, the 'problem' was fixed after much aggro pet blood fertilized the soil of Vanadiel but the 'LOL, it's a dragon-less DRG!' remained.
Besides... the 'Jump' stuff is flashy isn't it? So not only does it breed resentment from the bleeding but humble PLD or the hard-working and quiet WHM but it just attracts the kind of players... that... speak in COD, so to speak.
Look at me! I can jump really high! Oh! I'm dead. Raise me!
That's why in FFXIV, DRGs don't have that over-the-shoulder-flying-poop-dispenser. They just carry a long stick and try to poke the baddies with the sharper end. (of the STICK... not your helm, you LOLDRG!)
little known fact, a dragoon gets stronger the more spikes he has or the more spikey their armor becomes.
The LOLDRG!

Yes, the helmet is in the 'on' position, to keep the brains in. And the dragon poop out. Doesn't work all the time, alas.
You may also notice that there are two dragons in the picture. One on the Pointy Helm and the other... on the Pointy Stick. The LOLDRG got confused one day... but losses are frequent and expected with the LOLDRG.
its a melee dps, that looks like it has armor on, uses a 2handed weapon, a big 2 handed weapon, and jumps. everyother class is either not a dps, is a range dps, or just a duel weilding dps.
besides it has jumps, but most cant handle the jump swag, such as using it as soon as it comes off cooldon into about 5 titan plumes.
It's a guy thing.
Which DPS would a guy pick? NIN's cute twin breadknives? BRD's "I shoot at your from afar", MNK's "I get in close so I die first to AOE" or DRG "I carry the biggest stick and wear the pointiest armor"
Wouldja NINja?

Those knives are SMALL. They just look huge on a Taru (everything does).
The well-dressed BRD

Would you be caught dead wearing that?

All that power, all that skill... totally cute weapons.
or something that can jump like this

But with a longer, bigger and totally uncut pointy stick. And more clothes*. Pointy ones.

*comes with a winged, portable 'mostly white substance' dispenser
Yeah, it's a bit of a shock when we entered Alpha... and WAR = Tank. It used to be DPS. The new tank class is DRK. i.e. the ultimate glass cannon DPS in FFXI (BLMs are paper cannon since they're always catching fire)
What you and most of us need to do is get away from the "it looks like this, so it should be like this" mindset. It's a Japanese RPG after all. Take a look at pictures showing the protagonists of any FF game. Who's the leader/hero? Right... the thin, reedy kid who's so emo you wonder if he's a Sith apprentice yet. Just roll with it. Besides, the WAR's axe has healing nannites coating the edges... that heal you instead of the mob you just cleaved in two. Don't ask.
People are impolite part. Well you have to be 'polite' in return and just rush along with them. You can watch the naughtier cutscenes in the privacy of your own inn-room or just get a bunch of other players via the Party Finder with similar views. I'd put up PFs asking for "first look" + "no skipping". Efficiency, we just want to get the darn tomes and get out because it's a 'grind' to us, not a sight-show.
I play too much on JPN servers, so I never vote to kick even while on NA. Besides the votes always go through ^-^.
Need to wait forever part. Play a tank why don't you and help yourself AND the other poor schmucks waiting for a tank to fill that last slot :( Sometimes I wonder if this was why WAR got turned into a tank class too. Maybe tanking is too hard / boring or whatever.
Well... I take my own advice too. So I'll get tanking in a bit. After I've cleaned the stables :(

It's the same kind of thing as the term huntard or lolret from WoW.
Exactly this ^^ It seems to be the most popular job with new players especially.
But in all honesty the majority of people will use it as a joke. It's exactly the same as hunter in WoW. It's just a running joke that people like.
Things like:
"Oh of course the Dragoon dies first."
Are generally just people having a bit of fun.
People make fun of hunter in WoW despite it putting out some of the best DPS in the game. It's just an inside joke for people to laugh about.
