Don't be rude. To the OP: SE doesn't have a history of porting many (if any?) games to Mac. You're better off dual booting Windows.
I just don't use one, personally ^-^.

@xXSpellCasterXx: Google up 'Wine FFXIV'. That's one way to do it. It's not a hardware issue per se, it's just that you really need Windows on the box to run FFXIV at the moment. Also you'd better have a fast mac, else your PS4 is probably better (get a USB mouse/keyboard). After all, running Windows... on Linux... on ...
Yeah, dual-booting is the way to go.
Hate to say it, but when you are primarily a Mac user, you really are at the mercy of a head dev, and whether he thinks the conversion would be worth it. I would tempt them to try it since this game is still hopefully early on in its life and there are only a few other big-name MMOs available on Mac.
But yeah, if its games that you want, there are practically no reasons to buy a mac over a far less expensive PC. I use both due to college and the streamlined interface of the Mac nowhere near counter-balances all the things that it misses out on.
You might think of FFXI/FFXIV as console-centric games. It doesn't mean they just made a PC port out of a console game but rather that all platforms have limitations so as not to make the console crowd feel 'left out'.
As far as MACs go, today's MACs are all 'Wintel' hardware anyway. I can put OS 'N' on any PC platform if I'm using the dev kit or doing something very mithra.
Just pray the solution isn't typical SE *cough* Windower *cough*.
