ffxiv launcher doesn't work
Whenever I open the ffxiv demo it just make a rectangular black box that I can minimize or close. Nothing happens and I can't play the game. I tried installing it from their website and steam and I get the same problem either way.

I am having the same problem. I submitted a trouble ticket to Square Enix and they have not replied. I tried all of the "fixes" that I found by searching the internet and none of them worked.

Set Internet Explorer as your default browser, update it. Set all it's settings to the default. Then try FF14 again. (you can set whatever browser you want as your default now).

Use Notepad or similar TXT editor, open the config file found here:

My Documents/My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn/FFXIV.cfg

Look for this line of text "CutsceneMovieOpening", change that to 1, if it's 0. Or to 0 if it's 1.

-----

Try resetting IE's setting too, not just the 'default'

This is the 'Reset' under Advanced

Could add *.finalfantasyxiv.com as a trusted site.

I had the same issue (full game). Instructions in the black box were to open IE settings and allow cookies and enable Active Scripting (which I didn't have to do). My IE was blocking all cookies and that was the issue.

This lin of text doesn't exist in my .cfg file
So far, NONE of these suggestions have worked.

Might be a line about EULA.

There's something royally screwed up with IE on your box then. Either security settings wise or compatability wise.

I have TONS of other games ionstalled and download music and movies.
Never had this issue before. Any other suggestions?

Which probably didn't rely on IE for it's launcher. Without know what your settings are in IE and your trusted sites, etc. we can't help you further.

The install has failed. This line of text will exist if the installation was ok. Instead of redownloading the whole thing, you can try renaming the game folder, uninstall completely then begin the installation. Interrupt the process when it starts to patch. Then copy over / restore the original folder.

Without that 'line', you'll just get a black empty box in the IE window.

You DID try adding the 'line of text' in the .cfg file?

I just tried adding that line of text, It didn't allow me to assign a or to it.
Launch still failed

While Installing (from Steam) it never even gets to "patch" It completes the install, but launcher wont work.
