The fact a specific patch caused it might be due to them adding new graphical effects? Not sure if any were added recently.
Rolling back your drivers or updating them CAN help to stop this issue from triggering by changing how exactly specific graphical effects are handled however I'd say this is a last-resort fix.
Other fixes include disabling certain graphical effects in-game (set the graphics to minimum to see if it still persists, then slowly raise it till you find a stable setting)
also changing from windowed to full-screen or vice-versa can also help.
I can't find where the fix was posted but there's a "fix" on the microsoft help forums somewhere that involves changing your registry to make windows wait longer before deciding if your GPU drivers have crashed (by default it only waits 120ms usually). this can fix the problem in the long-term, though a separate issue with the same error message can still persist.
I had to roll back from the latest nVidia drivers as those were causing driver-not-responding halts in XIV and other games too.
System Restore is the easiest. So don't do that. No really.
Just uninstall the current driver and install and earlier one.

In the PC gaming world, this sort of thing is common. New games / patches + new drivers. Get used to it and write down the procedure somewhere.
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download - look for the latest driver and see if that's what you have... if not, install it. If you ARE using the latest... try a driver from a couple of months back.
You can also increase the 'delay' between 'GPU driver slacking off' and 'Windows noticing and taking action' by going here:

It is NOT a fix. Think of it as hitting the snooze bar on your alarm clock.
So I could just go to AMD's sight then and try install a previous driver version then as it automatically uninstall the current one I have? I only say that because of the fact yes I have the latest version.
That's the "fix" i was trying to find a link for, lol.
Essentially that DOES fix ONE issue but there's many issues that can cause the same message for some of these it can actually cause your PC to hang slightly (1 second or so) longer when these other issues occur.
I had it on before and it happened so I turned it off, but when I lowered my setting combined with it on it seemes to work a okay. No clue what that does, but thanks for now the problem the solved.
