Display driver stopped working issue with final fantasy 14
I am curious if this is an issue others have had with a realm reborn. It seems after a while while playing it maybe about 10 or so minutes the screen freezes and then my comp says display driver has stopped responding and has recovered. This happens constently actually and only after a certian patch I noticed as this never happened before at least I am certain it was a patch that caused it. I don't know if it's an issue with the game and AMD based drivers because I noticed some others had this issue outside of steam, but I am not so sure if steam users suffered this as well. I know it cannot be my driver dying as I do not overclock and also it only happens with this game. Any thoughts what it could be or is it just an issue with the game and AMD?

Drivers can still crash. I'd try rolling back your AMD drivers a bit and see if it improves.

How would I go about doing that?

if you can't even bother looking up how to roll back your driver, you shouldn't be on a computer.

If you can't even bother saying something actually constructive, you shouldn't be posting.

This is a known issue with windows vista/7/8 that has been ongoing pretty much since vista was released, basically it only happens with programs that use high-end graphical effects (games), Microsoft has said on multiple occasions that they either can't/won't fix it or the error doesn't exist.

The fact a specific patch caused it might be due to them adding new graphical effects? Not sure if any were added recently.

Rolling back your drivers or updating them CAN help to stop this issue from triggering by changing how exactly specific graphical effects are handled however I'd say this is a last-resort fix.
Other fixes include disabling certain graphical effects in-game (set the graphics to minimum to see if it still persists, then slowly raise it till you find a stable setting)
also changing from windowed to full-screen or vice-versa can also help.

I can't find where the fix was posted but there's a "fix" on the microsoft help forums somewhere that involves changing your registry to make windows wait longer before deciding if your GPU drivers have crashed (by default it only waits 120ms usually). this can fix the problem in the long-term, though a separate issue with the same error message can still persist.

Well I use windows 7 64 bit, but I assume the same thing still applies, but I tried lowering my settings, but still it is a non go, the game still plays but with that happening now again, so basically it is a "just deal with it" style of issue? Also is it a cause of alarm if it randomly stops working when I go online on my browser while watching youtube and the same thing happens, but far less frequant, and btw still to mention it does not happen when I play a game like awesomenauts, or when I was on roll 20 alone.

Roll back your drivers by uninstalling them in Programs and Features. If you want to be detailed, find Display Driver Uninstaller to remove the remnants after rebooting to safe mode. Download the previous version and install that instead.

I had to roll back from the latest nVidia drivers as those were causing driver-not-responding halts in XIV and other games too.

System Restore is the easiest. So don't do that. No really.

Just uninstall the current driver and install and earlier one.

In the PC gaming world, this sort of thing is common. New games / patches + new drivers. Get used to it and write down the procedure somewhere.

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download - look for the latest driver and see if that's what you have... if not, install it. If you ARE using the latest... try a driver from a couple of months back.

You can also increase the 'delay' between 'GPU driver slacking off' and 'Windows noticing and taking action' by going here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2665946

It is NOT a fix. Think of it as hitting the snooze bar on your alarm clock.

So I could just go to AMD's sight then and try install a previous driver version then as it automatically uninstall the current one I have? I only say that because of the fact yes I have the latest version.

It could also be your Graphics Card overheating, when playing the game what temps do you get? You can check in Catalyst Control Centre/AMD Vision Engine.

That's the "fix" i was trying to find a link for, lol.

Essentially that DOES fix ONE issue but there's many issues that can cause the same message for some of these it can actually cause your PC to hang slightly (1 second or so) longer when these other issues occur.

Yeah, me too. I dont know what thats for. I had like 5fps and got error pop up but im hearing the chocobo train sound toward hunt. After all that dc, had to ask hunt party and they ask to on LOD streaming and work for me. Never had the memory leak after that. I guess this is only AMD user. Always tick on LOD Streaming ^_^ and enjoy the game!
