FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

Doesn't work on Steam Deck anymore after latest patch
Maybe Square Enix figured it would be funny to make the game crash on Steam Deck as a delayed April fools joke but it isn't that funny now that I have paid for a month to play this game.

It is officially playable through the Steam Deck according to Steam/Valve themselves and has been for a good while. But maybe it will get fixed.

Why not play it on an officially supported platform?

Started having the same issue this morning. Have you attempted a full reinstall. I would try that myself, but I don't have time at the moment.

Steamdeck will break every single time the game is updated because the game doesn't support Linux.

If you want to have the least amount of hiccups, install the 3rd party xivlauncher.

1. It has never broken for me until now
2. It did not break on patch or during the hotfix and only stopped working now
3. I so happen to use said launcher and it is crashing with it.

I don't know what to tell you then. Just wait for the proton crap to get it stable again. Welcome to the realities of gaming on linux.

Ehh its whatever truth be told this just gave me the motivation to finally splurge for a proper PC. The Steamdeck has honestly been struggling since the Dawntrail graphical update and I am getting tired of its storage limitations.

It says on the Steam Store page that it's playable on Steam Deck.

Notice the yellow exclamation point? Now click on learn more. That section is added by valve, not square enix. FFXIV has no official support for linux.

What's also interesting is that there's notes in there that seem to indicate that Square Enix has made an effort to make the game more playable on Steam Deck. Indicating that while they don't support it in writing, they do support it in action. This is not uncommon.
square has actually fixed steam deck specific issues in the past.
regardless your best bet at support is the xivlauncher discord. specifically the Linux channel

Just use Proton GE, no need for 3rd party launcher.

"Playable" and "officially supported" are different things.

A lot of people don't understand this distinction. :lunar2019piginablanket:
