It's annoying to soloists like me and to many people who just don't feel like joining one for no reason.
First time on in awhile today, and even though it was for less than an hour I got 6 invites.
I think it's an issue. It's annoying enough that you keep getting tells about RMT-offers, but blind invites to FC (I'm assuming they are blind?) just seem downright rude to me. A social aspect of the game is thrown out at you without even a friendly tell asking if you're even interested? I wouldn't even concider joining. Clearly they're a little desperate to boost their numbers.
Heck, I may be a little eliteist, but even the people shouting about their FC (giving you "the ball" to contact them) seem a little... unattractive, because they clearly don't screen membership at all. But I guess for players who just want a FC for socializing, it can't hurt to at least TRY one of those - at least they're not harassing your personal space/chatchannel.
It's belittling in how it represents the FC as near worthless since anyone at all can join without even knowing anyone at all. I don't mean using connections to join or crap like that.......but being invited because the FC wanted them instead of anyone at all. I can understand someone recruiting in an area asking people to tell THEM. I can accept that much.
Of course I'd much prefer getting an invite from someone I either was just in a party with, teamed up with in a fate, or just plain was wating time around with. Or even the time I joined one before (left it after 2 months though) where I was invited because someone saw me handle a mob solo using tactics as a Tank.
I agree that if I were to join a FC, it would because that FC seemed like it would be worthwhile to join.
yeah, they're blind invites. I'm just like, crafting or walking around, and suddnely, I get the invite out of nowhere. It's all sorts of annoying. I mean, it feels like spam.
You're more likely to find a good one that fits you through normal means (checking the forums for recruitment, checking with people you partied up with, etc...).
Many of the good ones will have a link to their own site and will flat out explain what they're goal is and they help their members.
heh.....one person I know actually signed up with one.......found out later they were spamming those invites because they all pretty much sucked.
Shortly after launch, after getting sick of the random invites, I made the decision to just accept the next random invite I got with a sufficiently cool name. That got me into The Spoony Bards, a rather large (several hundred at the time) social FC. There were not many skilled players in there, but it got me introduced to some of those who were, and when some of them decided to jump ship and form their own endgame-oriented FC, I went with them.
But it's not a true catch22 since it has that duty finder to put together a party (it's cross-world as well I think). That allows people to find others for a quick dungeon run.
Besides, being friendly with guild members doesn't matter if noone really does anything with the others.
Surprisingly yesterday (or was it the day before) I was shopping around on a marketboard when someone messaged me asking me if I wanted to join their guild. I nice not that old guild with less than a dozen members. Ended up joining it. I'm not very active though (I've actually been away from the game for a few months).
Made a beta tester happy with that one.
That's why majority of people (myself included) ignore those spammed invites. I do agree that putting a party together from people you actually know IS better.
"Oh gee, thanks for spamming with the invite until I accepted. I don't know if I could have lived another day without joining your super duper FC."
"Seriously though, are you just lazy or desperate for memebers? Not even a 'Hey' or 'Hello' just stuffing the invite in my face like porn on a Vegas street corner."
"I didn't want to join this. Go **** yourselves."
Not only will it get you removed from that FC quickly but it will discourage random spam invite behavior.
