Pros: FF 14 Works (At least for me, Win 8.1)
Cons: Steam stops recognizing it as running
Excellent fix. I took about 30 minutes running through all of my processes. Google each one individually, I had some adware on my PC the inhibited me from booting the FFXIV launcher. I went to the file location of the adware, ended the process, and deleted all the files in the file location. Didn't need a reboot or anything, ran the launcher and it started up like I remember. :)
Remember: Keep your systems clean.
As for your current issue, try pinging SE's gateways (pick the one our datacenter's on, if you don't know... ping all 3).
thank you good sir!
I've also tried restoring to a point in time where the problem wasn't happening and it did work, I wanted to see on what day the problem arised again if it did, and it did during a critical update windows did, ofcourse I couldn't do a restore before the critical update so I'm now stuck, I download at 25/mb a sec so redownloading the game over just to play isn't that big of a deal, but I should't have to do that to play.
So for the past two weeks, I've just left my client on at the start menu, It's not ideal at all, but I don't have to redownload the game, there was a solution I thought worked but I don't know, I was told it's an internet explorer option, I went into the security settings and checked a box that allowed me to skip the error so the client would start up, then I went into the boot file and changed one of the numbers from 0 to 1, forcing the client to patch and get past the version check, all it did was change my download from 16 gigs to 10, and I logged in fine, but minutes after the boot file changed back to 0 and the version check error came back.
I don't know the the problem anymore...It's rather annoying.
If you go into the games folder (Wherever you put Steam) and turn the exes to admin mode you won't have to deal with that crap. The game won't show up (so you can't take screenshots or use overlay) but at least it's better than reinstalling the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game 20 times. Good luck.
