Is it true that PS3 players play with pc players?

Is it true that PS3 players play with pc players? If it is it seems so stupid because keyboard and mouse is easier to use than controller. I wanted to play this on console actually but if they are grouped with pc players it just makes no sense.

Also what about PS4 players?

Servers are shared crossplatform if I remember correctly.

PS3 players can play with PC AND PS4 players. Basically the same server serves all platforms. One game, many platforms. The earlier FFXI is also cross-platform (PS2, PC, Xbox)

Eh this is disappointing as I wanted to play with a controller and have fun with it but I don't think I can relax and play it when I know impatient kb and mouse players with an advantage will just hate on controller players. Why are you so slow? Why are you this and that?

What do you mean it doesn't happen? I guarantee you the majority of console players could not keep up with pc players with an mmorpg. There just is no way. I already have had enough trouble with kb / mouse only mmorpgs. I got enough grief for being a clicker way back when and then even when I was able to learn to not do that I still was bad. I raided but wasn't a quick learner. Factor in using a controller with FFXIV and playing with kb and mouse users and I think it will create a nightmare situation for me. :S Again really wishing they had controller only/console only servers.

I played Garuda hard mode on PS3 as healer. That version runs at 20fps average and we won the battle. Party was suprised when I said I played on PS3. The biggest issue I have playing with a gamepad is selecting enemies and allies, casting spells and such is quick enough.

Believe me, there are players out there who are better playing with a controller than those with a keyboard. The controller support is very well made in this game, and the developers test the content with both devices.

Agreed. Very much agreed.
Most of the people I knew who played PC used usb controllers in fact.
My opinion is that it's way easier to use a controller here (just use keyboard for messages/social)

With the way the controllers are set up and how movement and cameras work, it is way easier with a controller.
Trust me I've been playing MMOs for years, and this is one of the best setups I've seen.
I tried it both keyboard/mouse and controller even back in the beta. Even though I'm so used to keyboard/mouse it was much more effective with the controller.

Most PC MMOs have trouble with controllers because they're not natively designed to use them (you nearly always have to use third party software for most MMORPGs to run controller). This was pretty much designed from the ground up with both taken into account.

Because some people DO use controllers on the PC. You can kinda sit back and relax (with voice chat, you don't really need to type anything). Spend some thought on macros, arrange your skills/macros on the right hotbars... it's rather smooth and easy. No need for the usual 3rd party hacks.

So what's the purpose of your OP anyway? To find out if the game is cross-platform (google) or to find a game that's controller only or kbd/mouse only?

I didn't know if they maybe had made console only servers finally. That is what I had inquired about. Also instead of using Google I came here as it was much easier to get an answer that way as many times searches on Google give you old, outdated information.

As for spending time on macros why is that being mentioned when I was talking of playing it with a controller? I was trying to avoid that garbage.

So you are balking at info from people who actually have played the game just to hold onto your insecurity?

I started playing the game on PS3, and at the time I was quite content with playing on controller so I didn't really complain, but I did feel like it would have been better to be playing on KB/M because of my past time on WoW and how the combat is more of a traditional MMO. So once I got my current rig and up'd the graphics card, I went ahead and bought the game on here. After a while trying to learn to play the game on KB/M, I realized that that they have really did a great job balancing the game for both. So in the end it doesn't matter which method you choose, because the game feels right based on your preference. Also, this is more of a co-op MMO, so you shouldn't really need to worry about the advantage of other players as you should your own comfort and ability to contribute to your party.

There are some controller tricks you can use to pick targets and party members more easily. Sure for most MMO players it will be easier with a keyboard and mouse, but the Final Fantasy XIV development team put a LOT of work into making a control scheme that works.

For example, on a controller, if you hold L1 and use up and down on the D-Pad, you'll cycle through your enemy list. Up and Down on the d-pad without L1 will let you cycle between players in your party.

The rest is usually just a case of setting up target filters.
