That unfortunately doesn't matter. It is a third-party tool by virtue of it's existence.
That said, there is no reason not to believe that people who use mods and add-ons aren't still relatively save playing this game, and continuing to use them, as long as they keep it to themselves.
Don't Tell also means don't stream yourself using them like a moron
However. Best advice to say is don't talk about using it.
SQE and Yoshi have stated "Do not use 3rd party tools, plugins and mods. period" but they always were on the whole, "you dont talk about it, we dont intervene" policy as well.
The whole reason these bans are happening...
1. DSU brought a lot of spotlight to the game
2. Yoshi and SQE have always stated do not use
3. Streamers are showing off ACT and other plugins in view of hundreds of thousands of people.
I have no sympathy for the streamers who do this and get banned for breaking the rules in plain sight.
Considering something like ACT requires you to run it in borderless to run, a streamer at the bare minimum could easily capture the game instead of the screen and not show ACT. the fact they werent is complete laziness and thats on them.
that means that there was never the intention that FF14 is able to run on linux. with other words, that the official launcher is on linux busted will mostlikely never get fixxed because there is no linux version of FF14.
in short, linux is not supported.
I'm all up for having them accountable of things they fk up with, but this is not one of em.
On the matter of plugins, XIV launcher etc: They've said again and again that they cannot see what you have running on your computer, so, it doesn't matter if you use it or not, they cannot know, unless you show a screenshot, video, stream with it, etc.
All of this changes NOTHING for the average user, as we normally don't share our screenshots around, this is mostly a streamer thing, and they can circumvent this anyways with just obscuring the place where their addons are.
In short, all this witch hunt serves no purpose, is stupid, and classic of 4chan.
It isn't supported by the devs directly. Before the update though, it ran flawlessly with the compatibility tools built into steam. Considering the official release of the steam deck around the same time as the update, it was short-sighted of them not to take that into account. They created an absurd barrier to entry for an emerging market, as well as another already-existing one. As such, it is a definite ♥♥♥♥-up. Just not one that affects you personally, but does affect a subset of players as well as Square's own profits.
Wait, are 4channers mass-reporting streamers or something? I hadn't followed the situation surrounding it extensively, I was just worried for myself when I saw the post.
Which were? I wasn't aware that there were rules regarding it beforehand.
Obviously a giant paraphrase but that's the gist of it. This was the case for years. Still is. The streamers are getting dunked on because they're showing off their mods.
mods are used by many, its just a hush hush type of thing.
again, linux is not supported.
blaming a company that they busting something for an OS which is not supported is very wrong. even if it worked before the changes, yay, linux users got lucky, it was in that build somehow compatible with linux and worked fine. but, i am sure that was not intended by the devs nor shows this any sign of "yea, we did this because we wanted to make it compatible for linux" this is definitly not the case. it just so happened that a version of the launcher didnt complained about your OS. this does not mean that they did that intentionally.
again, you can not blame them for it nor was it shortsighted because linux is not supported.
and btw yes, there was rules beforehand. in 2018 and 2020 yushida said twice DONT USE THIRDPARTY TOOLS SUCH AS ACT etc. since everyone seem to have forgotten those warnings got they as of may 9th which you can find in the lodestone posts renewed and it got told when you risk getting banned if cought.
