UI Mods
I recently stumbled upon delvui and it looks good, since I use elvui for WoW. I have not played this game much and cannot find much of an answer. Are we allowed to use UI mods and such?

Legally: no
Technically: Just don't talk about mods and don't use them to abuse others and you're 99% safe.

They do not track them in the way that other games track for cheats so to speak which is an active thing. They only investigate if there are reports about it towards that player character. The reason is addons such as meters can cause toxicity (look at wow)(btw yes i did play wow for 16 years). That being said THEY ARE AGAINST TOS USE AT OWN RISK

The devs don't care. There are a lot of streamers etc. who use UI mods and whatnot and they don't say anything.

I don't think something like ElvUI is really needed for XIV though. The UI sucks out of the box but it's a lot more customiseable than WoW. If anything, grab ACT for a damage meter and spend some time customising your UI within XIV.

It's not correct to say they don't care. Taking a reserved approach to the issue, with rules in place saying it's not allowed, does not mean they do not care. They do care. If using a UI mod results in the user belittling others, using a mod will be taken into account during the report investigation.

Yoshi is not opposed to mods. He's opposed to the toxicity that certain mods (not just dps meters) foster and breed.

so the mod it's no really the problem but the player negative behavior, there are tons of streamers and youtubers that have those kind of mods right there on plain sight and nothing really happens to them so i wonder if someone knows that you are using mods and reported you just because you are using them is that enough reason to ban someone?

yes it is.
Because like said multiple times it's against the TOS.
And if they decide to actively ban them you will not be able to appeale that at all

is it allowed? no
Are you going to get banned for it? You could be likely won't. SE doesn't exactly know how to police their games. You can do things in this game that other mmos instant ban for. Just don't talk about it in game as chat logs are their only real logging other than doing a routine they can see with the same times being input.

It can be. Though it's handled on a case by case basis. I can't say for certain (for obvious reasons), but I don't think it's too often that people are punished over this. The impression I've gotten from Yoshi and others talking about it is that they're more concerned with the behavior aspect of it. That's not say you can't be punished, just that you may not be.

I heard of one streamer they banned for using a parser. But that was only because he used it to harass a player in raid/party that didn't do enough damage.

As most have stated. While technically against TOS, they won't ban you as long as you don't use any mods as a means to harass other players or ruin their gaming experience.

They were banned for harassment, not for using a parser.

It is illegal, and it is bannable.
It's not "illegal" but as it's against their rules and TOS, yes it can be bannable and not really worth losing the account.

I'd say feel free to use it. I've never heard of anyone who got into trouble because of mods. I know a LOT of people who use tons of mods (from texture enhancements to hair/scales and whatever to UI) since forever lol. Big streamers even go live with mods all the time. And if it turns out that square enix decided to take action, you wouldn't lose your account. My GUESS is that they would warn you, and if you decided to insist on the behavior, they would suspend you for a few days.

In short, don't cheat, NEVER let your mods cause any trouble or disrupt other people experiences and don't talk about it and you will be fine.
