A very basic guide can be found here:

A Reddit Thread containing some very useful Macros:

Another Guide:

I'm a dunderhead that can never keep Ninjitsu straight, these macros make it simple:

Finally, if you're a crafter, you live on macros. This makes crafting macros easy as hell:
http://garytay.net/ffxiv_macro/
You can use macros for crafting, some mouseovr macros and etc. But you will never want to use macros in actual rotation.
Otherwise all the Macros people are using are the chat commands to make funny chat art.
Of course if you're using an ACTUAL rotation, you're doing something wrong to begin with.
But yeah, as my guides even show, the most useful ones are not active battle, but rather battle prep or for actual rotation. You can layer abilities so that the current available one in a chain is used, etc. Those are useful commands that in no way shape or form actually employ /wait
This is what I mean by having an understanding of the /wait command and what it's for.
You would be surprised if you knew what people try to do with macros. (Or maybe not).
And people didn't much like my Bard macros where I actually sang a song for each Bard Music. ;A;
I'm lazy.

Yeah, macros are the worst thing for ninjutsu, since it ends up doubling the time it takes to input. There's only like three worth casting anyway.
I'll continue to, but I have a simple excuse. Issues with memorization. The macros mean I pull off the Ninjitsu 100% of the time. Doing it manual it's more like I have a lot of bunny ninjas dancing on my head.
Seriously, that's almost impressively sad. You should just stop playing ninja if you're too incompetent to do it right. And make no mistake, being unable to remember a code composed of three non-repeating numbers that you chose ahead of time, that's incompetence.
I guess you just didn't read the comment section before posting that, because every comment talks about how terrible it is, about how it's never, ever worth it, even getting into the mechanics of the /wait macro works.
It's unnecessary. F1, F2, F3, etc. etc. on to F8 will quick-target each party member. F2 will target the Tank in a light party, using the default layout of the party list, then you hit your Cure or Esuna/Leeches or Regen. Then you go back to the enemy by hitting Tab and cast your damaging spells.
But then I find it easier to do everything by hand.
