So yeah... unless you want to play at the 95th percentile, pick whatever you like the most. And even if you do play at the top end, chances are that no more than 1-2 jobs will be off the roster, if even.

You need to figure out what type of role you want to fill within a party and then look at which jobs fill that role best.
This is really unhelpful. IDK why the XIV community is so aggressively casual.
Nothing casual about it, you can perform well as any job and any role if you put the effort in.
If you don't think that then it's not everyone else that needs to adjust their mindset. You can play whatever you like and still do extremely well.
Hell as a monk I regularly beat most SAMs I encounter in PF.
