What are the top tier/meta jobs/classes in FFXIV?
New player btw. I know I have the ability to just pick a class/job and clear the game or have fun with any of them but still kinda want to know.

There really isn't any one individual class that's better or worse than the other. If you look at world first raid clears for each raid tier you'll see that even the best players in the game don't all use the same handful of classes.

That being said, there are two "metas" (if you want to call them that).

1) Whatever class you decide to play will have an opener and a rotation that you should learn and use, and they'll have their own stat priorities for melding materia

2) In general, in a raid group you're not going to want any repeat classes. A team with a bard, black mage, ninja and dragoon, is likely going to do more damage than a team of 4 samurai, even though samurai's whole deal is that they're the big numbers melee class. In order to get those big numbers, they rely on buffs from other classes and the stat bonuses that you get for having a variety of classes in your team.

As long as you keep those two things in mind, you're pretty much free to play whatever you want.

The top tier job for YOU is the job you have the fun with the most and are willing to take the time to understand your entire toolkit as well as your rotations. No point playing the "best" job when you're gonna play like an absolute clown with it, cause you might as well be F tier, am I right?

Very much the wrong mindset. Must be why I've found ff14 to be way more fun than other mmos, especially the monstrosity wow has become.

None, we don't do that around here.

Play what you find fun, get used to it, learn it and you'll be a-ok.

None. This is not WoW or any other typical mmo.
Every class has it's good and lows.

You should lookup on youtube for each job class showcase so you can see their abilities in action. That's what helped me pick my main for this expansion.

This is what the average dps parsing (50th percentile) looked like during Shadowbringer.

So yeah... unless you want to play at the 95th percentile, pick whatever you like the most. And even if you do play at the top end, chances are that no more than 1-2 jobs will be off the roster, if even.

Just go to the game and try for yourself. I never asked noboby what class was the best. I dont need it. Stick what you like. You will have no fun thinking about meta bs if you ask me.

btw. it wont help you to play the "best" class when you dont like it or cant play it bcause of the playstyle

(it's actually because my sleep schedule is messed up so I wake up at 2am)

There are a lot of different niches that the different jobs fit into. Some jobs are better than others but a lot of them are just different from each other, so it really depends what you're looking for.

You need to figure out what type of role you want to fill within a party and then look at which jobs fill that role best.

Nothing casual about it, you can perform well as any job and any role if you put the effort in.

If you don't think that then it's not everyone else that needs to adjust their mindset. You can play whatever you like and still do extremely well.

Hell as a monk I regularly beat most SAMs I encounter in PF.
