Play FF14 on steam with a Mog Station Account

I thought I would leave this here as I, for one, have been less than impressed with the misstep SE made in changing the ability for steam users to log into FF14 if they have bought the game through the Mog Station.

I for one do have a fancy for tracking my game time and the though of not being able to do this anymore almost had me at the point of not wanting to play the game anymore.

So I did some digging and have found a workaround. Now I appreciate that not everyone will want to do this but it's here if, like me, you want to carry on using Steam to play "kinda" (i'll explain why)

First off..

If you still have the game installed you can pretty much ignore this step, though if you want to save space you can delete the FF14 folder but DON'T for the love of all that is scared use the "Uninstall" in steam! you'll need it for later.

If you have decided to uninstall the game from steam, reinstall it back on, only the intially install, you don't need to do all the updates and what not as you won't be using this version of it, so it will just be the 50-odd meg install you have to get the launcher installed.

Next..

You will need a copy of Steam Edit [steamedit.tg-software.com] Download this to a random folder on your desktop.

The site gives you very simple instructions as to how you use it anyway.

Then..

Download the FF14 Launcher from the SE site Get it here [www.finalfantasyxiv.com] *this is the EU version so im not sure if it will be different for our US neighbours across the pond*

Install the the game to your chosen directory.

Next, Then, Now

Now the game is installed fire up the Steam Edit you D/L previously, select Final Fantasy 14 Online from the top left drop down menu, then hit "Edit Launch" in the bottom left. In the Executable line, click the file looking symbol on the right hand side and locate the ffxivboot.exe from the Online version you downloaded before and press OK. Now press Save & refresh, this will restart Steam if you have it open.

At Bloody last!

Load FF14 from steam and Voila! you can now play FF14 and still keep track of your time!

Hope this helps, I appreciate this may not help everyone as this issue has become a bit of a hotbed but hope it can help someone.

Under arguments line, clear it out and make sure it is empty, that is the stupid tag line causing the error when people log in.

Save and Reset.

I believe all you should do is deleting that arguments and all's done

Do we really have to install the Windows client? Can't we just use our Steam's FFXIV folder? It's basically the same thing. Move that folder to somewhere else, then re-install the Steam version.

In the 2nd Line down "Exacutable" either click the page icon to the right and find the install folder of FF14 or copy the address in the the field.

And click OK.

Welp, gave it a quick go today.

All I had to do was open up the game launch properties with steam edit, delete the '-issteam' argument from them, and then save it and reboot steam for the settings to take effect.

Seems to launch fine now, steam overlay is working, and screenshots as well.



No need to redownload the regular version, just launch what I already had.

Steam game time is ALMOST always wrong.

I go by in game time. /timeplayed in game and it will tell you.

i got 300+ days played so it's something like 7k+ hours total as PS3, at launch, and then PS4, wont track time on steam.

it's why mine says 5k hours, on steam, but in game time says I have 7k + hours total.

Same with those who bought the windows version too and stayed with windows, best way is to consult in game for accuracy.

It can be made simpler.

Rather than using the non-Steam install, where you instruct to search for the ffxivboot executable, just change the argument there.

-isnonsteam will work

I think no argument at all will also work.

This doesn't work for people who use the free trial (me). I tried renaming it from "FINAL FANTASY XIV Online" to "FINAL FANTASY XIV Online Free Trial", but no dice.
