Voice Acting Fail??

Literally the weirdest voice acting I've heard in a video game. And that one guy sounds like an American speaker trying to use an English accent for the first time, and doing terribly.

They change the cast out in Heavensward onwards. I like some of the original cast a little better though.

Personally I've found the Japanese voices to be much more natural to listen to.

And for me this is the same with 99% of games that were made in Japan.

I don't, since I'm not a native Japanese speaker, I can't pick up on any of the nuances in the voice acting, so it all sounds exactly the same to me.

I felt the same until I was finished with HW. I like the new one because it helps illustrate that he is still just a kid despite his best efforts.

If you think Alphinaud's is bad, just wait until you notice they replaced Urianger's. They REPLACED Gideon Emery! How do you do that?!

On the upside, Raubahn is now Hawke from Dragon Age II.

I'm very disappointed in the laziness displayed to acquire new voice actors, give it that some are now better, but the issue being is you can tell they didn't check with the player-base before deciding.

Else, why wouldn't they have just kept certain voice actors and removed/changed the rest.

Like the colossal stupidity of changing Alphinaud's voice actor, and a few others.

Be it, that the rest were poor and didn't put any real drama into their acting, hence it falling flat in the first place; But surely the people choosing this outcome had social awareness and could pick up on social cues enough to recognise that the distinction was dramatic effort, not the voice itself.

I will still play this game, as will/do many others; But allot of people became invested in certain characters, especially do to how real they sounded. And after I looked up why Alphinaud sounds so bland now, it turns out that allot of people felt disconnected from the game because of the change.

Anyway, I've just started Heavensward, and I'm hoping to enjoy the experience.
Hopefully nothing else like this follows.

Because the ones who weren't replaced were already on the London-based cast that they were transitioning to.

Alphinaud's old voice reminded me of Elijah Wood. The new one works in the long run since they start playing up the more childish elements of his character after he gets mad humiliated.

wait so the voices are different once I get onto the expansions? I'm still on the level 50 story quests and grown to relate each voice to each character if they change that will kinda bug me.

Kann-E-Senna, as much as I like her, had a terrible voice actress in ARR. Every word she spoke, regardless of context, was like making a huge proclamation. Suitable in some aspects, like when she's giving a speech to a crowd, but not so much when she'd just having a little chat with Merlwyb and Nanamo, for example. Her new voice actress is much better.

Conversely, Merlwyb had a great voice actress in ARR, she acted out a strong, confident and dedicated woman very well. HW Merlwyb, though... the new actress tries, but just doesn't match the original.

Raubahn, however... ARR, HW, doesn't matter. The guy's a badass, with either voice actor. The HW VA is the winner, of course, but they're both very good.

Then there's Papalymo... I never thought I'd miss his grating voice... until I heard his new voice actor.

The only other notable change imo was Urianger, which was a terrible change. Gideon Emery was the perfect VA for his... style of speaking. Replacing him hurt the character a lot.

All the other VA changes were just minor to me, including Alphinaud's. Some I liked, others were a little annoying, but ultimately I warmed up to all the other VA changes.

This is, of course, all a matter of opinion.

Yes, a great many of the VAs change. Some you hear immediately, and are extremely jarring to have such a sudden change. Others you won't hear until well into HW, a couple not right up until the end of HW, and these you've had enough time of not hearing to be more prepared for. But, they'll all keep these VAs, and ultimately many of them were good changes... though not all.

Haha yeah, the British accents felt weird to me so I swapped it to Japanese.
Doesnt matter though since I skip every cutscene.
