1]Alphys, someone with power far less than a human soul, trained by those with power far less than a single human soul, claims the power needed to cross is equal to a human PLUS a monster soul.
Two loopholes with what Alphys says.
1A]AT LEAST EQUAL TO. Meaning having MORE (such as 1 human + 1 other human if only that were doable) would work. However seeing as Flowey is the only being capable of wielding two human souls normally, Alphys would be mostly unaware of this possibility.
1B]How do they know a single human soul isn't enough? Pretty sure there's only been 8 humans down there. 7 died before getting to test, and the other (unknown to the monsters) may have had reasons to pretend a single human soul didn't work even if it does work. And that assumes Chara even ATTEMPTED to cross solo. Perhaps the legends of monsters saying it took both was enough to scare Chara into not even trying. And that is assuming Chara even WANTED to leave by themselves in the first place, which is a rather presumptious assumption.
2]Some people theorize that Chara has possessed Frisk ever since Frisk fell down Mt. Ebott. Which would give Frisk not only their own full human soul, but also whatever portion of the Asriel/Chara soul remained with Chara's corspe buried under the flower bed.
2A]Which, so long as it equates to at least one monster worth of soul, would be enough to work assuming Alphys is correct in how much power is needed to cross.
2B]And the assumption that the Chara souls is actually a portion of the Asriel/Chara combined soul would get around the human can't absorb human dilemna.
3]Another common theory is that Flowey warped Frisk beyond the Barrier prior to the boss fight. Although this still leaves the question of how does Frisk receive the Sans call.
3A] Perhaps the phone didn't leave the Underground? Or maybe the phoen service can penetrate the barrier, just whatever tech runs the phone and undernet hadn't been made compatable with the human internet/phone service at that time? Clearly Alphys is aware of the EXISTENCE of the human internet due to her lines during the playable epilogue segment of TP.

bro
thanks bro
a) Frisk died, but with the power of determination, respawned and went on to do TP or Genocide route, thus making either ending the ONLY true way to leave the underground. Evidence for this is how when the game ends, you're asked to reset it, or continue your previous save to go back and befriend the rest of the monsters.
b) After the battle, before Frisky could even attempt (and fail, lol) at crossing the barrier, Flowey pulled them off to the side in some kind of void space. Like what he did prior to the Photoshop battle when you re-open the game to a void and to walk to your SAVE. Pulling you off to the side, thus actually making you stay with him like he wants to. At the same time, to give you ideas on how things could be different if you were maybe.. kind(?) Yet, this void exists in the same space somewhere underground, or in like a purgatory sense, thus allowing you to recieve San's phone call still, but NOT being able to pick up. A purgatory that not even Blooky or other ghosts can check out. Same space, but not time, thus allowing a week or so to pass to examine the results of your actions. (A purgatory Blooky and ghosts can't access cause they don't have determination, and plus, this is messing with save or stuff in a way cause of Flowey)
c) The Flying Spaghetti Lord rose up from the abyss to fuse with the human, and allow safe passage through the barrier. He then gave a magic upgrade to their phone with a meatball mega antenna, allowing them to talk to the munster-mash dancers with ease. Not only did Frisk take a dump on the underground in this run, they freed the Holy Flying Spaghetti Lord, giving them endless freedom until Super Wegee time devoured his saucy vessal., also thus allowing the Flying Spaghetti Lord to transcend his corporeal form, and become a Flying Spaghetti GOD.
I find that option C is the most feasible! I mean, there is an abyss at Waterfall/The dump. Who knows what great things could sleep there... or unless... OH NO...
CATHULU IN UNDERTABLE CONFIRMED!
unexplained.
Here are my thoughts on the whole "leaving the barrier" situation and the events that happen with that.
it seams like if the phone left the barrier, it could not receive the message.
it seams like if frisk left the barrier that the game would show something for it or they'd never be able to see the message at the phone at least due to the time involved and the signal not escaping. (unless were not really playing as frisk and veiw the phone from another perspective detached from frisk?.)
it seams like if frisk died they'd reset before getting to speak with flowey,
plus im not sure flowey would be able to talk with them or that they'd say the same stuff if they were dead, (since they seam to be trying to appeal to the whole "go back n help your friends" thing, not "your stuck here and HAVE to go back")
i suppose if somebody -else- were there (Chara maybe?.) flowey might talk to them.?..
it seams like if somebody else reset it'd work like it does in omega flowey's fight, jolting right to the loaded save the instant that some one else loaded it. but if frisk's been dead why didn't -they- load it?. (they clearly try to on a true pacifist run during the being trapped part, even tho they fail, so its clear that frisk -can- infact attempt to load saves.)
and if somebody else could load it, why'd they wait so long to do so?. (look up the Mettaton ending, Those events likely take quite a while to occur.)
im guessing the way they get through the barrier involves the human souls disappearing, flowey definatly seams to remove them from the cases in every neutral ending.
Maybe frisk has part of chara's soul, but even if they did, flowey would need a method to cross as well to speak to you on the other side -after- sans phone call right?.
Perhaps flowey or the souls punched a hole in the barrier to escape or brought frisk with them?.
6 souls is probably enough to bring some one else with you or do some trick that while not outright destroying it, is enough to get more then a single person by it.
(technically.. if they could be fused and unfused at will, just one human soul could work to get many monsters across the barrier, since the monster could fuse to it, leave, unfuse it. stuff it in a jar, and throw it back in for the next monster to use. so i could totally see 6 souls making a sort of tunnel through it, even if it was just temporary. or being used for some other trick to let more people pass.)
Some kind of time-space shennanigans seams like it would explain this mess away nicely, but its difficult to get any proof for any of that in game.
being trapped for too long with no food or water seams like it would kill a person.
i think the barrier may try to keep -time- from leaving as well.. and thats why so much time
pass's on your short trip out?. because time inside the barrier is seperated from time outside the barrier, (plus maybe the message can make it -part way- into the barrier but not all the way out?...) and you get a pre recorded message from sans (which being pre recorded, plays at normal speed on your phone despite the time dialation effects.)
That would seam to explain away most the problems i can find with whats going on there.
"the souls are gone because either flowey tolk them and helped frisk leave the underground (possibly only to strand them mid way in the barrier or in a pocket dimension.) or the 6 souls worked with each other to escape the barrier, and frisk n flowey just followed em out."
(or frisk has extra soul power some how (Chara possession maybe?) and flowey just stole the souls to escape with.?)
"the barrier causes time dilation, which is why you get the call on your way out despite not taking such a long time from your own perspective."
What do you folks think?. does this sound valid?.
