FINAL FANTASY VIII

FINAL FANTASY VIII

Statistiche:
Anyone ever killed X-ATM092?
I've only managed to do it once to be honest, and it wasn't really that easy. However you'll really rise the ranks when you get into Seed if you have killed it.
They totally remove the FMV for when you run into the boat to escape with just walking into the boat instead though, but it's a really nice challenge.
My solution is a lightning elemental junctioned Squall or Zell, or possibly both. A dual casting Selphie (casting Thundara/Thundaga), and then spam the limit breaks with Squall and Zell. Both should obviously have the Strength stat juncitoned with something like Tornado.
Really fun challenge, you could possibly get overleveled if you aim for it and completely stomp it though.

For those who don't know/remember, X-ATM092 is the robot spider chasing you in Dollet.

The CG scene where Quistis shooting down the robot right? I think it's missable - no memorable part of that scene for me.

Heck, even I hated a part where Squall hugged Rinoa once he released her from the capture. xD Man FF8 as a whole is not interested story wise. It's just it was the best RPG at that year. When was it, when I was middle schooler IIRC.

You're right, my mistake. I had a brady games guidebook as a kid, I believe it mentioned only killing the spider on the bridge. I never questioned otherwise. Killed the thing once in my 3 playthroughs but I couldn't bare to do it again-that cutscene is just too kick-ass.

An easy mistake to make, I've had all too many assumptions and things said to me that turned out false in the end. Of course I believed it, and said it as a fact as well, it's a common misconception. =D

I agree that scene is really really good. But man, I've seen it so often that it doesn't bother me that I miss it once, I know I'll see it soon again either way. ^^

I loved that scene, might be because I had this loneliness complex and I loved the fact that they seemed to care so much for each others. But man, it just feels so good seeing that scene to me. ^^

Make ol' thunder bird learn SumMag +30% and boost. Dude goes down and the cut scenes aren't that long for initial GFs.
I killed the X-ATM092 like 10-12 times (I lost track) for around 500-600AP earlier today. Beat him easy with Renzokuken (with 100 Thundaga on Element Atk). Each limit did over 8000+ damage. Had all the abilities on my 4 GF's learned except 2 on Siren by the time it was all said and done.

X-Atmo can be defeated in all the fights after you have escaped from it once,
knock it out 3 times in row without it being able to do the repair sequence
in a same fight, be warned though, if you escape from their droid after the initial fight,
it will negatively affect your exam results, -20 points for each escape.

If you have troubles with that self sustaining droid, here is my tip for it;

-Have quetzal at atleast on level 20ish
-Summag+10% & +20% on this GF
-Boost
-maxed profiency on summon speed

Or then get lucky with selphie and cast "The End" Limit break
on it and boom, its gone. ( that LB did kill the X-Atmo on psx version back in the day,
not sure of the pc version. )
I don't mind losing the exam points...it's well worth the hundreds of AP points and learning all your GF abilities early in the game. Plus the 100pt bonus you get for killing it makes up for it anyways.
Contrary to what has been said before, and to what the guidebook says also, you can kill him in any of the encounters after the first one. The first encounter, you are required to run away from it, but I willingly chose to run into it in the third area (the same area where Selphie jumps down off the cliff to join the party), and I defeated it there, easy peasy.

I personally utelized Ifrit's STR+20% and 40%, and had Tornado in my STR junction and put Thundara in Squall's Elem-ATK junction. I intentionally kept his health low (in the critical/yellow zone), and spammed his limit break, while Selphie cast Quezacotl, and Zell cast Thundara.

Only took me about 8-9 rounds to down it.

**Tips: Tornado in the STR slot!? What is this madness! - The cardgame is your friend! Abyss Worms can be card-modded into Windmills, which you can then use the T-Mag-Refine to turn into 20 Tornados each. Tornado is a killer boost to just about any stat you put it in. Squall's STR was in the 70's. It was glorious.

Second tip, in case you didn't know - If you want to get AP fast, fight fastitocalon's on the beach. they're 3AP per mob, which nets you 6AP per battle. :) Happy farming!
Just do it twice. Once for the cutscene, reload game and go for the kill/points. Been years since I been in dollet but it's not such a long piece of gameplay (30 min?)

People give the draw/junction system hell but I was one of the few who actually enjoyed it. There are so many different ways to go about it, and getting your stats up without leveling always felt very rewarding to me.
There definitely should be like an Achievement for completely destroying that thing.
can be beaten easily after running once. but its best to beat it by the bridge, i find so a lot of random encounters can be missed. Also seems it drops different items at different places can anyone confirm ?
Agreed, star - the only reason to kill it at the bridge rather than earlier is to avoid those pesky random encounters messing with the timing - if you're going for the high seed rank or the ap farm, you're going to want to cut the time wasted on random encounters down to a minimum.

As for the drops, it's supposed to just be random. He drops one of 4 or 5 different GF training items; each one is a +40% to one of the stats; I think it's HP, Strength, Vitality, Magic or Spirit, but it's been a while since I've looked at the charts.
Hi all - sorry I know it's an old thread but I have an important question!

Q - If you defeat crabby before getting to the beach, what is on Dollet beach later in the game if you return?

From memory.... If you do it the normal way and let Quistis shoot it on the beach, there's a crater there later and a NPC talking about it. I was wondering if the FF8 programmers had an alternative beach and NPC in case you defeated crabby??

Also - if it's different, can someone record a video to show please?
.............................................................................I've been playing FF8 since i was 8 years old, this is like my 20th play though and i did not realize you could kill that evil bastard. ironically i always over grind my characters to lvl 25-30 before i fight evorett lol so i probably could have slayed the machine if i wanted.
Probably not Mighty, since monsters in this game levels with your characters. Meaning it's harder to kill the higher level you are. Low level, and high level magic junctions is the best way to deal with it.
