FF7 vs. FF8
How does this game compare to FF7? Which is better?

Now, I've played a bit of FF7 (got out of Midgar), but that was back in October so I most likely should start over pretty soon....Mostly because when I pick up a game half a year later, I am sooooo lost with the story n' what-not.

Can someone give me an accurate review on both of these games? Before I boot up FF8, that is. :/

2 different games both in plot and mechanics, any comparison will be bias and probably just result in fan boys spouting why they love the game.

Similarities are that they are both rpg's made by square and share the ff title.

Only you can decide which is better to you, but be warned you have invited fan boys to come calling lol

If you play 8 just close your ears (or eyes :P ) to any review that says the main Character is Emo or Dead or any game theory. Just enjoy playing it with no strategy guides or whatever and if you like it then look up for any more details...

There's already a massive thread for this, i suggest you not read it :P and like the guy above said play as if there were no internet and guides and you'll enjoy it a lot more. The only thing i think you should use a guide for is GF locations and rare card locations(because they're missable)

FF7 is better cause it has way more content and all side quests aren`t text based, but it up to personel preference which one you`ll like better.
if you played FF 7 first than 8 won`t compare.
Also magazines missable, cards, GF`s, shops, items (but you can just get them from chocobo world now) also Ward is missbale in a flash back if you pick up a certain timber machanics before the flashback you may want to use a collectible or missable guide at least. (i played without one first time long story short missed many things)
You may want to play FF8 first since 7 has way more to offer.
oh also you need GF`s just to reach items in your pocket.

GFs? Not sure what you mean there.

Also, Are you saying that 8 is shorter than 7? How about the difficulty?

This is such a subjective question to ask. For me, FF8 is better than FF7. Always has been and always will be.

GF's are Guardian Forces (summons) what he is reffering to is the fact that without a GF junctioned (something you'll learn if you decide on 8) your characters can't even use the item command.

Neither is shorter really, it will be down to how long you spend on certain areas, some people spend hours grinding, others never go past the opening few hours.

As for difficulty, again depends how you play. VIII can be broken early and in ways that VII can't (chocobo world+triple triad) but VII also has a few breakable points (most far later than VIII's though.)

In all you will just have to play a little of both and decide which you want to start with, you can always play both over time and form your own opinion of which is 'better' then.

8 wins for me buuut 7 has the better setup scheme, 8 just made the junction system more complicated then it needed to be and the way they used a level list for enemies was a very bad experiment on their part, means you never had to level to go further, you could litterally avoid all exp and still beat the game

If you're like me and you only like to play a game once, get 7. Either that or make sure you completely understand 8 before you get it, it's incredibly different from any other FF game before it-in terms of mechanics. You can and will miss very important things in this game never to be seen again if you don't use a guide the first time around. You can get too high of a level and not be able to kill any monsters, getting weapons and magic can be so tedious after awhile it's annoying. FF8 will piss you off on a first play through unless you're patient. Do too little or too much and you could ruin a playthrough of 8. The story and gameplay are fun though.. FF7 all the way. I've played 7 about 5-6 times since it's release. I played FF8 on release and made it to the end but never beat it, missed so much stuff, was too high of a level, couldn't kill anything, junctioning is stupid even when you completely understand it. I'm playing FF8 for the second time now and plan on beating it but it is such an irritating game..

FFVII had blocky lego graphics, swiss cheese plot, pigeon-hold music, and merely variations of systems stolen from FFVI (magicite > materia.)

FFVIII has great pre-rendered graphics and good models, a better character driven story, an amazing score, and unique systems in GFs and juctioning.

I enjoy both games, but VII is my personal favorite.
