FF7 vs. FF8
How does this game compare to FF7? Which is better?

Now, I've played a bit of FF7 (got out of Midgar), but that was back in October so I most likely should start over pretty soon....Mostly because when I pick up a game half a year later, I am sooooo lost with the story n' what-not.

Can someone give me an accurate review on both of these games? Before I boot up FF8, that is. :/

no no look at reviews
dont pick the thing of TONS of FLAME wars

are better yet play them for your self ther both good games think of your own for once

And how should he gets his money back if he won't like it? It's not that Square Enix is gifting it to us like Rock Star has done it with GTA & GTA2. Also you should EVER consult a review if you don't know if the game is something for you or not or you will waste your money.

Even back then I informed me through game magazines which often came with a demo CD/DVD of games and didn't buy blindly games because they look pretty. If a demo exist then it's of course the best way to test the game by yourself, but there isn't one for the rerelease of VIII. He wasn't pleased with VII so it's very likely that he do not like VIII and then he would instantly regret to have purchased the game. There is simply no way to try the game without to pay for it. And that's the point: he don't want to waste his money. That's why asking for impressions of others is a good idea.

You really don't understand the point. Thinking for your own seems to be useless if you are not able to DRAW the right conclusion out of it...

why not both? jesus christ these debates are terrible for people who havent played them.

Cloud is insane thanks to Mako and trauma
Squall is an emotionless robot that learns to love

i love both games like a fat kid likes cake. Who cares about the flavor

So I got past the Nibelheim flashback. I'll admit that watching Sephiroth's descent into madness was some good writing.

However, the thing with the overworld...something just feels off......bland.....that dry, gunky feeling you get in your mouth right before you come down with a cold/flu.

I also don't mean to offend anybody, but I'm having a difficult time seeing why there's an insanely massive fanbase for FF7. Maybe it's all the Rule 34......

Still haven't booted up 8 yet. Still trying to give 7 a chance. Anything else I should know about 8? (KEEP IT SPOILER-FREE )

2 different games both in plot and mechanics, any comparison will be bias and probably just result in fan boys spouting why they love the game.

FFVII and FFVIII are completely different/seperate games in a franchise/series and should not be compared, however, If I was to personally decide which game I prefer, all I could say is that I find myself returning to play FFVII even after beating it, and FFVIII is a game that takes maybe two-three gameplays (time frame it takes for me to get through the entire three discs of its predecessor) until I finally start to actually care about the characters, storyline, etc: Which means that I'm too busy playing its minigames (card collecting) and/or taking long breaks after every save.
I just don't feel anything for these characters, and the storyline tries awfully hard to be mysterious for what it really is, hacking previous installments in the Final Fantasy series. I would never say dont ever play the game if all you hear is that FFVII is the more popular game, but be warned that FFVIII has been made to feel like a minor reboot of the series (you will find out immediately in the games' mechanics.)

Personally FFVIII has always been my favorite and definitely deserves more credit than it gets.

I believe this will help you understand FF8 and the reasons why some people prefer FF7 over it.

personally they are both great games and worth a good play through and listening to the hidden mesages in the story-lines. i know they may not seem to be there or seem to make sence to those new to looking for the hidden mesages around us..... but..... ff8 talks alot about what makes family, and how good and evil is all based on ones perspective. and ff7 talks more about finding yourself and who you truely are despite who you are told you are or are pushed into being. at least that is what it says to me........ anywho this is all my perspective and a bit of stuff my partner has taught me. may or may not be true, but i hope it might make the replay interesting to you.

FFVII had blocky lego graphics, swiss cheese plot, pigeon-hold music, and merely variations of systems stolen from FFVI (magicite > materia.)

FFVIII has great pre-rendered graphics and good models, a better character driven story, an amazing score, and unique systems in GFs and juctioning.
ok.....?!?
there's mod for the graphics to make it better than 8, 7 music is way better i have no idea what you trying to say there no pigeons.
FF7 also has prerendered graphics doesn't lock you out of every town plus has way more mini games/sidequests and also a second world map.
Junctioning would be a lot better if they didn't nerf the game to implement it.
Also FF7 is one of the best RPG's AND movies of all time can't argue with that.
But since we on the FF8 board it makes sense people would think 8 better that's why you posting here instead of FF7 board.
i like FF8 for the wolrd map, junctioning and limit breaks but just doesn't feel like the whole package like 7 was (even though it was rushed)
Was i supposed to implement a FF8 pun?!?
.........i like HOTDOGS.

Just two different games with similar names. If they were to be relased under different titles (such as "Avalanche" and "Sorcerer's Curse") no one would bother to compare them :)

Oh.. orphans are the only common thing in both games.

I remember when I finally got my copy of FF VII, I had a friend that got VIII and he told me it was better. I swore up and down there was no way a game could be as large in scope as FF VII. I think I was right. Now, when I got FF VIII, I loved it!....but for very different reasons than I adored VIII. FF VIII is beautiful to look at and listen to (I have the physical soundtrack). I don't think the story is as huge though. I found the way to get magic in VIII better that the hours of grinding in VII. Now FF VII runs on different mechanics so the look is different, but good for what it is. The music in sections is iconic. For me VII is all about the characters and the story. I hate the grinding but it does pay off in the end. Lengthwise, I invested more in VII so I am not sure how VIII compares, since I didn't have a guide to find all the Guardian Forces and ultimate weapons. Hope this helps!
