[HINT] If you have problems with the Doomtrain card
I had a very annoying problem with this card during the Queen of Cards quest and after Googling a bit I noticed that a lot of people encounter similar issues. So here are some hints that helped me get through this last part of the quest:

Getting the card from the pub owner: This wasn't difficult at all. It just so happens that sometimes NPCs won't play their rare cards right away. I just kept trying over and over again until he finally played it (took less than 10 or 15min). However, I'd like to note that I acquired the Alexander card back before flying to Timber for the Doomtrain card, so if what happened to me on the third step happens to you here, perhaps try doing that.

Losing the card for the QoC: Standard procedure, just make sure she goes to Dollet after it happens (I had to reboot the game quite a few times until she gave up on FH and headed towards Dollet).

Getting it back from QoC's son: Now, this specific part is where I had a problem. I spent between one and two hours (not even kidding) challenging the kid, but he wouldn't put Doomtrain on the table. Closed the game, had a short break and when I got back, another half hour of the same thing. Since QoC was in Dollet, I headed to the pub to have a little chat with her. After challening her, the first things she said before the match were related to the Doomtrain card and the making of the Phoenix card. After I finished with her and went back to her son, he played the damned card on the very first try! I only worked on getting the Phoenix card after I got Doomtrain back.

I remember having some trouble getting rare cards before bc the NPCs just wouldn't play them, but none took me more than two hours until they finally put it on the table for the first time since the card was triggered. Consdering that this is the last part of this quest, I can only imagine that the people who showed up on the results on Google also aknowledged that sometimes NPCs take a while to play the cards, but what happened to me was so much that I was ready to use Hyne to get the card back. I only use cheats after I'm exhausted of trying to get past a possible glitch, so fortunately my last attempt at manually fixing the issue within the game itself worked. If this doesn't happen to you, great! If something similar does, try taking this post as inspiration for your own ways to find a solution without manipulating the save file if you don't want to go that way.

Hope this helps!
